Now Leo, we all know that Hillsdale is one of those 'evil' conservative places. They are BAD BAD BAD. SO bad that they were the FIRST college to ban discrimination based on race, creed and gender in the U.S. and a leader in the anti-slavery movement.

SO bad that they take NO State or Federal funds, which frees them from the bonds of government control over their classes. BAD BAD BAD!! They don't toe the government line and have academic freedom. HORRIBLE! They teach as they CHOOSE to, BAD BAD BAD! They don't teach dependence and other socialist swill. How bad is THAT?

If you ever ever been to the school, you will not think it is a conservative school but more libertarian.

Conservative seems to mean keep the status quo

Bad enough that they even hired that Lew Rockwell guy ... they must be bad if they hired him .... after all, he seems to be a fan of personal freedom .... that alone qualifies him (and them) as an enemy of the state ....

"If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals -- if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories.

The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is."

Why do you need a button?

Just say you like it!

Rlent much as that is true in theory, in practice it does not appear that way. The present conservatives are as bad as the present liberals in both form and function - take any issue and you can see the polar opposite between the two while there is in regards a lack of liberty and freedom within their solutions.

Thank you chef .... glad you enjoyed the quote. (BTW, good article at the link - thanks !)

Why do you need a button?
It's easier .... :D

Rlent much as that is true in theory, in practice it does not appear that way.
Ideals (as espoused in theory) are often divorced in the attempt at practice. It happens for a variety of reasons - some of them perfectly understandable, and sometimes perhaps even justifiable ... others however ought to be condemned and despised.

The present conservatives are as bad as the present liberals in both form and function - take any issue and you can see the polar opposite between the two while there is in regards a lack of liberty and freedom within their solutions.
Yup ..... I've commented a few times on the false paradigm of a body politic composed of only two diametrically-opposed positions ... such a false paradigm is a trap.

Traps, by their very definition, contain less freedom .... an absence of liberty .... so it should really come as no surprise.

BTW, Roger Stone just resigned from the Republican Party - he has an interesting take on things, which fits right into your observation above:

Goodbye, GOP

The GOP is dead .... it has suicided itself.

Never heard of Lew Rockwell. Anyone who believes in our Constitution and freedom is an enemy of the state as it is today.
