Don't know much about them. They only show one vechicle on the safer sight. They do show 8 vans registered in the alliance small carrier program. Can't say much of anything good or bad.

Thank you. They had an ad on the magazine for a couple issues. They said they were expanding to new areas and needed more operators. I am considering them but need to learn more about them. They do not have a web site and a Google search does not pull up anything on them. ????interesting.

Always a good idea to do your homework before joining any carrier. They are going to be your business partner and the decision is one that should not be taken lightly if you want to succeed.

jelloit,

Speaking of joining carriers, I have had a couple of drivers contact us and explain they do work for several expediting companies at the same time.

This would seem to possibly be an advantage to the driver so they aren't dependent on one company to find them loads.

However, it appears that most of the big-name national expediters would have you drive for them only. Do I have this correct?

We are new to figuring out the national expediting as we mainly do outbound work from our hometown and then just deadhead back.

We are trying to figure out how to locate backhauls for us and our drivers when we go on the longer runs.

If we could contract with multiple expediting companies and post our vans when we are empty I would think we could really help ourselves and our drivers out.

Any suggestions you or anyone else may have would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Rarely does that arrangement actually result in more load opportunities. If a van is signed on with 3 companies that are all seeing the same freight, all that does is drive the rates down with those companies bidding against each other to move the same van.

Thank you for your help Charles.

I completely understand your point if all of the companies are looking at the same loads.

I was under the assumption that each company had loads that belonged to them only via their own customer. Maybe this is not the case.

I am just relaying what one driver told me and see if anyone out there was doing this successfully.

The companies that would allow that rely primarily on brokered freight and they all look at mostly the same boards.

Alliance Express out of Mi?

If so they do a good job, small company, good people. Mostly cargo vans and sprinters in that fleet from what I remember.

I personally do not like vehicles pulling for multiple carriers. I think that it represents a legal and insurance issue. I also do not believe from everything I have seen on these boards that drivers end up doing better in the end. I would recommend you form alliances with other expedite carriers to help you with back hauls. Many of the expedite carriers such as ourselves have brokerage operations.

I would also recommend trying to build relationships in the expedite alliance and at their events. You will only see a limited amount of freight at first. Expedite carriers have to really trust the people and companies that they partner with. This is only done though building relationships and displaying excellent service. For a small carrier this relationship can be much more cost effective than the overhead salary of additional sales people.

Sorry for the delay in responding I was out of town for a few days in business down in Nashville.

As a side note, my compliments to the people of Nashville. They are pulling together, cleaning up, and moving forward. They are doing all of this without crying and with very little national media coverage. They should be commended.

Thank you Vinnie. They are out of Mi. I was talking to them about a sprinter.
