I was wondering if there are company driver jobs in the Expediting World? I would like to try the lifestyle before investing my money into a truck. Also, why hasn't Expediting caught on in the east like it has in the central states?

The greatest majority of carriers that solely expedite use owner/operators exclusively. Some of our members operate small expedite carriers and use drivers to operate their trucks. The latter generally have their own customer base and, I suspect, cannot afford to hire drivers on an interim basis.

A separate category of folks are fleet owners that lease two or more trucks to one or more expedite carriers; one family we know of owns 35 trucks leased to at least three different carriers. This category is the group most likely to hire a rookie driver on an interim basis in the hopes that you would enjoy the work and pay and stay on indefinately. A team would be preferable as they would produce the most revenue for the owner and the driver.

A third group of folks is a single person, either an owner/operator or a driver for an owner operator that desires a co-driver. This person would take you in as a trainee where you could learn the business and have the opportunity to make a career choice. You can find folks in each of the above categories in the "free classifieds" tab on our home page. You might also talk to recruiters listed in the "find jobs" tab. Check this site also: http://www.expeditecarrier.com/search/Mid,045Atlantic/New_Jersey/

Expediting opportunities are available nationwide. The west coast is busy; the other western states are slow; eastern TX to central PA has the greatest opportunities; and the eastern states, east of central PA, do very well. New Jersey and eastern NY are particularly busy yearround.

I'm currently working for a company, based in the Dayton, Ohio area, who hires company drivers, as well as having O/Os. I'm paid hourly, and do nothing but out and back expediting. Just got back from Chicago this evening. I picked up there this morning, and delivered back in Dayton. I average 30+ hours a week, and there are NO EXPENSES!!! (other then food and drink.)

Since I left Panther, to take this job, I've been home lots more and the headaches have stopped! We run cargo vans, straight trucks and tractor/trailers, all as company drivers. Currently, I think we're around 70 drivers total (company drivers and owner/operators).

Look around in your area, make some phone calls, and I'm sure you'll find something.

Panther has many small fleet owners that are always looking for drivers. The reason for little east coast expediting is because no one wants to go to the east coast, to many tolls and cheap freight
:p :p :p
