Canada Coming into Canada Toward Month End?

As I'm sure you all know, Canada is hosting the G20 Summit later this month. The US has issued a 'travel advisory' ending on June 28th.

TheSpec.com - BreakingNews - U.S. issues travel advisory during G20 summit

In addition to the regular general chaos and anticipated congested and tighter security border crossings, our natives are once again planning on embarrassing our nation next Thursday (June 24th) by blocking major highways.

The blockades are planned for either Highway 400 or Highway 403 next Thursday to tell the world that, "everything is not OK in Canada for native people," said Red Power United spokesman Harrison Friesen.
The 403 runs from Woodstock, Ont., to Mississauga, Ont., just west of Toronto, and Highway 400 runs north between Toronto and Barrie, Ont.

A blockade is also planned on the Trans-Canada Highway the same day near Thunder Bay, Ont.

Apparently these natives will reconsider if their threats result in them getting their way in not having to pay the new HST tax which is rolling out on July 1st. Unbelievable that our government puts up with this!

Regardless, you might want to think twice about accepting a load to Canada during this time period, or at least ask for a rather huge bonus :rolleyes:

No worries mate. My GPS knows how to re-route. I suspect it was manufactured in Canada. And no pun intended, I always drive like a native when in Canada. That bonus thingy, yes, that is a nice thingy.:D

Thank you for the heads-up. It seems the focal point will be downtown Toronto, a place Diane and I have yet to see. Toronto-area freight we have hauled seems always to go in or out of the suburbs.

As for highway blockades, we have those in the U.S. every day, twice a day in most cities. They are called rush hour. Though, if rock-throwing militants happen to be active, it would probably be wise to keep our distance with our stars-and-stripes, U.S. corporation logo sporting truck.

Downtown Toronto is pretty much a roadblock in itself even on a good day. :D

It's high time the white man stopped giving in to their illegal strong-arming tactics. They're really getting out of hand and making a laughingstock of all levels of our government.

I say good Pj....it is the only way to keep what the treaty gives them...the white man has taken everything else....if they don't protest they will be like the American Indian...conquered..

Honour the treaty...

I think the blockade has been called off with this news...

Under the agreement:

- First Nations citizens will be exempt at the point of sale from off- reserve purchases, upon showing their status card from September 1st onward. The two month delay is to enable retailers and governments to make the necessary changes to their systems to accommodate the exemption;

- Ontario and the federal government will be releasing in the coming days a Technical Backgrounder/Bulletin describing the scope and procedures for the First Nation point of sale exemption;

- For the months of July and August, First Nation citizens will be reimbursed the provincial portion of the HST upon the submission of receipts. Ontario will be releasing shortly a Memo/Bulletin outlining the procedures for the refund.

The Regional Chief expressed relief that a new tax will not be imposed on First Nations citizens, many of whom struggle at or below the poverty line. "I, and my fellow Chiefs, are greatly concerned for the well being of our people. This concern is what has driven us from day one and we remain committed to protecting our people and our Treaty rights going forward," stated Regional Chief Toulouse.

"The citizens of Grand Council Treaty No. 3 that reside in Ontario should have confidence that every effort was taken to maintain this point of sale exemption," stated Ogichidaakwe Diane Kelly, Grand Chief on behalf of 26 First Nations in Northwestern Ontario. "We were extremely fortunate to find a path towards protecting the property of our citizens which is a treaty right in Treaty No. 3. The point of sale exemption is key First Nations policy in Ontario and honours the commitment of the Crown to protect the interests of Treaty No. 3 communities as long as the sun shines and the grass grows, that is to say forever." - Ogichidaawke Diane Kelly, Grand Council Treaty No. 3.

Was in downtown Toronto earlier this week...jersey walls with 9 foot chain link fences on top being installed around the "Red Zone"...the main meeting site...more cops then I seen in a long while...businesses starting to board up windows, removing patio furniture, mail boxes, paper boxes and the like being removed...they even took out a number of small trees, to keep them from becoming weapons...even the boats in the harbour are being limited during the summit..."fleets" of vans and suburbans being staged around the city...
Really a good place NOT TO BE during the Summit...IMO:eek:

Speaking of delays, I heard on Landline Now, and correct me if I'm wrong, but the report was to expect delays on the Ambassador bridge (as if not already) beginningf, I believe, in July this year, 2010, while they close one lane at a time to replace the bridge platforms, expected completion date, END OF 2012!!.
While on a downtown Toronto delivery one time I saw a historic locomotive being moved, loaded on a custom drop deck. I beat myself up for not getting a photo because traffic was too hectic, did anybody happen to see this or get a photo of it?? Yea, everything is delivered by truck, even trains! hehe

Saw that on the news, they moved an old Steam Loco to the round house railway mus. located around the bottom of the CN Tower. It was located further west in the CNE grounds (very much like a State Fairgrounds) They have since moved in a number of other railway goodies too...Of course this is now in the middle of the "Red Zone" and not recommended to attempt to visit for the next week!!!
June 28, 2010 we should all be back to our normal Cdn hectic traffic and all.:cool:
