Coke Taste Test

Did you know that Canadian Coke tastes different than the Coke you get here at home where it originated? I head there was a difference so got a bottle of each ad just did a taste test - the difference is quite noticeable. It seems USA Coke is made with high fructose corn syrup whereas Canuck Coke (and apparently Mexican too) coke is made with good old fashioned sugar and tastes WAY better. Anyone know why we can't have sugar here? Not that I really care though - I'm a Diet Dr. Pepper man. :)

It's like compering M&M to Smarties...

Moose.

hmm, never thought of that - maybe I will give that a try next week. But I'd say I have a preference for smarties cause they come in a box which makes it easier to tuck away to shift and finish later. Canadian twinkes taste better too. :D

When I was on the road I noticed that the Diet Cokes at Mickey D's tasted differently in different parts of the country. Anything south of Louisville was enough to gag a maggot. Couldn't wait to get into Windsor to get a cola at the McD just across the Ambassador bridge. I finally started buying Diet Cokes in the small bottles. I could screw the cap back on, and they fit perfectly in my cup holder.

What kinda Diet Dr. Pepper man closes his smarties to finish later and doesn't eat the whole box? Sheesh!
That's really weird about the sugar/fructose thing in the drinks tho, wonder what the prob with using just plain old fashioned sugar is in the USA?

I could swear that I hear or read that in Canada there's a law that says you have to use sugar and you can't use corn syrup except in certain circumstances. I might be dead wrong about that, tho. In the US, the gubmint keeps sugar prices artificially high with subsidies, so high that at one point Coke and Pepsi decided to quit using sugar and go with the much cheaper corn sweeteners.

Here's a fascinating read about the history of sugar in the US. The further down you read the more insane it gets.
The Great Sugar Shaft

Cost may be it, I seem to recall reading or seeing on the news that once a year the make "kosher Coke" with....................yep, sugar, so clearly not a rule - just being cheap.

As for you pjjjjj - I never said I finish my smarties later, I just set em down till I finsih shiftin' - then I eat them - so there! :p That said, what I really want (d&$# it) is an orange Aero bar or orange Kit Kat but they quit making them. :(

I may have the answer for you. Picked up a load at a Pepsi distributor in Cleveland and was taking it to WV. I asked about it and the Personel at the Cleveland plant began to give me this long reason for paying FedEx to DL a load of pop. Boils down to that even in the different areas of the US the pop will be different in taste do to what the people in the areas like (more sugar or less sugar) he was saying that it is all taste testing in those areas. I was an avid Pepsi drinker so did my own test and sure enough from coast to coast top to bottom there is a difference. Hope this helps. Be safe.

Oh, phew! Glad to hear you're not one of those people who save for later, hehe.
Let me turn you onto a great chocolate orange.. not cheap like a chocolate bar, but really good, and probably big enough to be the equiv of 4 chocolate bars. You must havem there, if not, you're in Canada all the time anyway.. it's called 'Terry's Chocolate Orange'.. you can get the milk choc or dark choc one (I haven't tried the dark so can't vouch for that one). Here you can get them for $3.99 at the cheapest, and usually $4.99. That'll soothe your craving :) It originates from the UK, but I believe Kraft owns it now and should be available in the USA.

Epcot center has a coke pavilion, not sure that is what it is called. You can taste coke as it is made in different countries, one of them maybe Germany can't remember for sure even had a orange flavoring added. It was kind of an interesting taste test sampling them all.

My wife hauled my azz to Austria a couple years ago. They have Coca Cola Lite. To add insult to injury they serve it to you pee warm, no ice. Worse crap I have ever drank. I don't drink alcohol, but I was so desperate for something decent to drink I had a couple beers at one dinner. On top of that, I didn't see one kangarooster in Austria.

I think you'd probably have to go to a zoo to see one in Austria and even that is doubtful.:p

Was talking with the mechanic today, he said he likes our coke but not the Russian one as its too sweet - and he's Russian.

pj - where do you find those chocolate orange things?

USA Diet Coke is lighter tasting, clean and refreshing.
Canadian Diet Coke, syrupy goo, leaves a film in your mouth.

I stock the fridge in the US otherwise I drink Water.

Those Chocolate Oranges are good. I haven't seen them in a long time though. They are shaped like an orange and bust apart into sections like an orange.

pj - where do you find those chocolate orange things?

Places like Walmart, Shopper's Drug Mart, prob most drug stores, any place where you might pick up a box of chocolates. This is what the milk choc one looks like, the dark choc has red instead of blue. And looks like they now also have a choc bar. With these balls.. you take it out of the box, wrapped in its foil, and smash it down on a hard surface.. it all breaks up into segments, kinda like an orange... so you can eat some and save for later :) Unlike the smarties, you prob wouldn't want to eat a whole one of these at one sitting.. well unless you were going on a really long trip.

Coke Facts:
1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.
2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in 2 days.
3. To clean a lavatory: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the lavatory bowl and
let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in the coke removes stains from vitreous China.
4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a
crumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola
over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.
6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the
rusted bolt for several minutes.
7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap
the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for
sumptuous brown gravy.
8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of
greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The
Coke will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from
your windshield.
