Co-driver Pay Rate

What would be considered a reasonable pay rate (dollar or percentage) for a co-driver partnered with an O/O driver? This is regarding "B" thru "E" units.

Thanks...

I've never been in the position about which you inquire; however, comments made by other drivers to me may be of help.

Typically, an owner will split 60/40 with a solo or a set of drivers. The first seat, having a greater responsibility will get a greater amount of the 60%, so they often split 40/20 or 35/25. It would then seem reasonable for a co-driver of an owner to receive the same percentage or, 20-25% of the revenue to the truck. I would also think that with experience and good performance a co-driver would go from a start of 20% to at least 25%.

I don't think I've ever seen a pair of unrelated drivers in an owners van. It'd sure be tough, particularly this year, to feed three folks on one van's operations.

Thanks, Terry...Yea, I didn't think the non-family team in a van was particularly do-able, except perhaps for a situation where the co-driver was just supplimenting another source of income (S/S, retirement, etc). I think there might be some present or potential O/O's looking to fill the second seat, tho. That's the situation I was considering. Should I decide to take the leap, my SO thinks (and rightly so) that she should continue at her present job for at least a year until the truck is self supporting. In such an instance, I would probably go with a "D" unit and require a co-driver. Just covering some of my options. Thanks again for your input.
