Seems like a lot of trouble when all that's necessary to legally rip people off is to put tank heaters in to heat the fuel. :)

Yeah, it's being discussed. Oil companies and gas station owners are lining up with a plethora of reasons why the fuel pumps can't be upgraded, all of which ignore the ease and speed of which Canadian stations managed to convert their pumps when it was discovered that cold fuel was costing them money. And the Weights and Measures people are looking at the possibility of phasing in the conversions over a 10 or 15 year period to ease the great burden and high costs of modifying the existing pumps. SO don't look for any major moves any time soon.

You know what the difference is between 60 degree fuel and 80 degree fuel? It's 1.2 percent. Granted, it's not the 5% that the Kingsland Cisco Travel Plazas were raking in, but it's legal.

80 degree hot fuel at $2.75 a gallon costs you 3.2 cents a gallon (more than 60 degree fuel). At $4.00 a gallon it's 4.8 cents.

Incidentally, the vast majority of home heating oil is delivered temperature compensated. Why? Because it's delivered in the winter when it's much colder than 60 degrees, and they'd lose money if it wasn't compensated. Also, not all home heating companies deliver temp compensated fuel, but the ones who do must compensate it year around, and not just in the colder months. :)

With the profits the Oil companies are making the change over costs are peanuts! The executive bonuses are prolly more then the costs! It's so bluntly a rip-off and all they can do is talk?

There are some naysayers that say the costs will be passed onto to us anyways so why bother? WHY? Because we have a right to the exact amount of fuel we THINK we are buying!

ok we know about the hot fuel, but do you know hot fuel doesnt burn as well as the colder fuel.I'd like to find a way to cool my fuel in the summer,so i would get a better burn.the hot fuel causes the ctane rating to go down.Back to the hot fuel,in my truck i have a read out that tells me how many gallons ive used, and my miles per gallon.if in fact im getting hot fuel, then when it cools,my understanding is im not getting all I pay for,but if this us true, they when my read out says ive used 200 gallons of fuel, and when I fill up, it will only take the 200 gallons, whats the issue?

Steve...the issue would be...In those 200 gallons, what was your MPG's? Was it the same as cool fuel?

I suppose some would say, well if I lose in the summer and I gain in the winter...whats the issue? I suppose the issue would be consistency...To get at the time of purchase what your paying for....

As pointed out, the oil companies in Canada (which are all pretty much global/US owned) seemed to be able to convert the pumps up here to temp compensated in what seemed like a month. Sure we don't have as many pumps but they sell a lot less fuel up here.

Betcha it gets rolled out in the US from north to south!!
