Changes at GM

Just wanted to drop a thread, Henderson resigned today as CEO of GM.

The rumor has been floating around for a few days that they would force a move at the top (they being the car czar) and look for another non-car guy to replace him in trying to duplicate "Ford-Mulally success". The joke of it is that the one person who could repeat the "success" is at Ford - Mulally.

Some think it will screw up the work that has been going on to help GM while others think that they need to replace the entire executive staff. The interesting thing is Henderson has so many p*ssed off in the EU that they are looking at GM's situation to stop the sale of Opel based on the amount of people it will put out of work and I feel his resignation is the backlash from that.

Yeap i heard it on the radio a little bit ago the Fritz was history, fired by the BoDs but you can bet the "car czar" leaned on them heavy after Germany and the EU had a fit when the Opel sale was called off.....

LOL, Fritz was the VP of finance at GM and ran the latin divison of Gm for a while, but he was one of the "Old boys" before they handed him the big chair, and the finance divison was certainly a highly successful division at GM!! Wonder what made them think with the same mentality that they have had forever he could do anything when handed the key to the big office!?!? I mean he was a "bean counter" for the old out dated "auto culture" that GM has refused to cut loose....and what did he do while in office?? Yea he set in motion most of the changes that Wagner had already setup and wasn't given the chance to start before barry jumped on his power trip and illegally fired him...so other then screwing up the Opel deal, what has Fritz accomplished?? I know the union guys were happy wth him..but again, what did he do??

As for replacing him... hiding another Alan Mulally that will work for barry and Government Motors with a "capped salary" that could do what Mulally has done is more or less "slim to none!" Mulally, understood big time manufacturing and marketing and sales, boeing is no small backyard company and he was highly successful....

GM is simply living on barrowed time and it is coming from the taxpayer pockets, just dump them like they should have done to begin with, let them restructure and dump the unions and they can take their time to become a soild company again....

The thing that matters with anyone who can or will try to run GM is that they will never have the latitude that Mulally has at Ford and that is where they will fail.

As I watched GM work in the past, the days of designing and marketing a car by committee are long gone and that is what got the company in trouble in the first place. With this sort of small change at the top at GM, it will not work because the committee got a lot larger and they are already failing in the market.

I do expect that Obama administration may end up stepping in again and putting the brakes on some of the competition and even effecting Ford. I'm envisioning another form of help, maybe going after Toyota or Honda or figuring out how to tax them because they are not a domestic company - all to prove it was the right move to take them over.
