i have a question on the cdl permit..........i was told that if you have a person with a permit driving a truck with a licensed cdl operator that we can only drive for a total of 14 hours is this true.....also if we have one licensed cdl driver and we have two drivers with permits in the truck with the licensed driver how many hours can we drive....we will only do this for a short period of time just looking for some asnwers

Enforcer;
I'll put on my Safety Director hat and attempt to provide you a good response to your questions.
A CDL Permit driver must have a licensed CDL driver (of the same license type) with them when operating the commercial motor vehicle. Since the licensed driver can only drive 11 hours, that would leave him/her three (3) hours of on-duty time to be in the passenger seat while you (the CDL Permit driver) drive the vehicle.
The same is true for two (2) CDL Permit drivers. The licensed driver has only 14 hours of on-duty time.
See 49CFR 383.25 for info from the DOT on CDL Learner's permits.
Hope this helps,
