CB radios to be Phased out

Ontario Looking for Feedback on CB Exemption Rules

This is an article in Trucking News I believe its about phasing out CB radios in Canada but its only a matter of time, with Cell Phones now Illegal, the CB wasnt too far behind, many think of the Low CB radio as the Squak Box with nothing But CB Kung Fu Masters and there kind causing it to be useless, But I disagree.

I think the CB is a useful tool still and a valuable one, I cant count the times Ive used it for Local Directions, or to just chat and wind the miles away with a total stranger, sure there Idiots who want to key up and use the foul language, Racial slurs, and slang. But whats new....I come from a background in radio when you had to have a License for using the CB, I used to have a 60' Tower, Bearcat Scanner and a Whiteface Johnson Tube radio on at my house all the time.

Ive always had a good quality radio in my truck, with quality antennna, Mic and a slightly modded radio (for clarity purposes) and just last week I used it succesfully to dind a way around the toll roads in Northern IL, near Rockford.

What do you think, Useless tool past its prime, or do you have one in the truck and find it useful. Do you think they should make the Bluetooth headsets work with Phone and Radio, would you buy it....Personally I hope that those over smart PHDs of Guidance in Washington leave our radio alone, With the new smaller Ham radios, and 10 Meter its a great way to spend a evening.

The CB could be phased out, what do you think.

Not much of a CB user here. Ours is off most of the time but I would not want to be without one in the truck. When it is needed, it really is needed.

Studies and commentary about distracted driving say that the CB radio is different than a cell phone and not distracting. Has there been a rash of wrecks attributable to the CB radio or are regulators just making more rules because they can?

Mine has saved my life, made lifelong friends and enabled me to maintain 100% on time delivery...
Guess I won't be using the passport going forward.

I read an article about politicians debating if it should be illegal to pick your nose. How do the statists come up with all these? Freedom...ah, nostalgia.

You know, a cynic would possibly attribute this to the gummint wanting to limit communication, so when they want to load us into boxcars, nobody can spread the word.

you can expect more of the above.
once we allow them a foot in the door with the stupid speed limiters,
they see that the US simply don't care.
they force us to comply, yet they refused to take a part on CSA.
this is about money, control and nothing else.

Oh and i too use to have a licence and a set of PDL Quads on top of a 40 ft tower...:)

I would be against any kind of ban. The given of course it helps navigate around accidents and all the traffic snarls. Where it helps as well is when going into disaster areas such as after a tornado or hurricane. Many times the cell towers are out and the cb is the only communication.
Didn't use it a lot, but I wouldn't want to be without it when it was needed.

I think a lot of drivers already have gotten rid of CB's and replaced them with the international hand signal.

have CB(not installed at this time) Used to belong to a CB club here in York Pa years ago, and ther are still some who use daily.
the Cb is better than radio because how are you going to get the info ahead w/ cell phone so you can detour before problems.

This may sting a little,
I remember when the CB was more of a social tool rather than a tool to find an outlet or a fight or belittle another driver for whatever reason. It's a shame because the CB now serves another purpose, to determine how many low quality second rate drivers we have among us on the road these days. Sorry to say that but that's what it looks like. Based on the conversations I hear now, nothing good seems to come out of it anymore so therefore mine is off most of the time. On a different note, sometimes it does provide useful information if I can sort through all the other useless garb and find out which lane is best when there is a crash backup. True.
