Chuck,

I'm sure everyone has their favorites. Road Kings are good mics, but having tried most of the mics out there, I prefer the Astatic 636L Noise Cancelling mic. Above all, with this type of radio, you do not need to run a power mic. Don't fall into that trap. A power mic usually will just make you overmodulate (those loud fuzzy sounding guys) and it's better to be loud and CLEAR. With a power mic, you have to juggle the mic gain on the radio, and volume on the mic to get a good balance of sound. Just leave the mic gain up, and use a good quality noise cancelling mic (such as the 636L) and you will sound great.

Ditto on dreamers response, I run a ranger radio and purchased 2 roadkings last year, in addition to the over-modulation I had to get both repaired. Seems the solder connections are weak at the plug and any stress from a mike hanging will break the connections. I bought a astatic with a conduit (metal cord) 6 mos ago and have not had the 1st problem plus the radio mod"s better.
