CB advertising

Friday I was traveling South on I-69 in IN and saw the Northbound lanes shut down past exit 19 due to a fuel spill . Traffic was backed up for 2 miles before the ramp . I started warning Northbound drivers not to go past exit 14 . Once I got down on I-65 I advised drivers intending to go North on I-69 to take I-70 East to 109 North and pick up I-69 North of the spill . As I got close to Whiteland where I intended to fuel a new Speedco facility was constantly using channel 19 to try to draw in business and I do mean constantly . Advertising on the CB is illegal . A lot of people do it but at least most have the courtesy to only break in every 5 or 10 minutes when there is no other traffic on the channel . These idiots completely monopolized the channel . They don't deserve any business .

What I usually hear is the Mom and Pop truck stop or the CB shops. I enjoy hearing what they have on their menu and don't mind them advertising. It would be a totally different thing if every Pilot, T/A or whatever were blitzing the air waves so I agree with you.

I have to say I have been listening to the CB more than ever lately. On Tuesday I got a heads up about traffic and saved myself at least 45 minutes because when I got back on the freeway there was nothing coming because it had been completely shut down. If I had followed the advice again on Thursday I would have saved myself an hour.

Keep on listening. It won't take long before you'll tire of the advertising. You'll quickly tire of the automated advertising from The Pizza Man in Oklahoma City, the DVD Man in Effingham, the Party Man in West Memphis, the list goes on and on. I was once heading to a CB shop and on the way I heard them advertising on the radio. Just that quick they lost my business. If there is anyone who should know the legalities of advertising on the radio, it's a CB shop. If they'll so knowingly and blatantly break the rules of the FCC, I don't want them touching my radio.

Problem is with a CB shop, most drivers are not going to know they're there if they don't advert now and then. I don't like constant advertising, but I don't think a quick 'CB shop, channel 21" hurts anyone. A buddy of mine used to own a shop by a truck stop, and drivers wouldn't even see the shop.

But, that quick lil blurb, and off the air, and he got business.

If it is short mom and pop type advertsing or menu reciting, I would agree that this is the limit but anything where the radio is attached to a recorder or automated, they need to be fined and the radio confiscated.

The intent for that band was not a channel for cheap advertsing, let them buy space on a bill board.

With most drivers carrying a laptop nowadays if the shop is listed in the yellow pages a yellow page websearch will list his business and show a map with his location .
