Veteran Expediter
Delivered as promise, well almost.
this winter i went to visit Israel, and with the well anticipated arriving of new van options to the expedite community, i wanted to come back from Israel with some advanced look on models others then what we had here for the past few years.
i wanted to get dimensions, curb weigh, and test drive the new Ford Transit, and the Renault ProMAster.
well plans are good, but when i landed in Israel and started looking on Van's it quickly becomes clear that the selection offered in Israel is almost non-relevant for expedite used.
at least not as a long&tall Sprinter competitor.
the other problem was that i simply did not had much time to spare.
Le'Me explain.
In Israel a chauffeur permit will allow the driver to take up to 6 passengers, and drive a vehicle with a GVW of up to 4 tons (8,800p.).
however, a commercial permit will allow a driver to take up to 10 passengers, and drive a vehicle with a GVW of up to 15 ton.(33,000p.)
since ANY driving permit require going to a long driving school, it takes just a little longer to obtain the commercial permit.
but once you got a commercial license there's very little hassle involved.
this create a situations where many new drivers obtained the commercial permit to begin with . and drivers to drive heavy Vans can easily be found.
there for MOST of the vans in Israel for commercial use are WAY heavier then 10,000p. almost all have 4 wheels on the back axle.
there's simply very little use for an up-to 4 ton van. why limit?
the larger vehicles also enjoy a much better tax benefits.
All, but ALL vans comes with a diesel motor.
when it comes to models, the ford transit seams to be the king of the road, other models will be the Volkswagen Van, Iveco, Peugeot Boxer, Renault PM, and the Sprinter.(not many Sprinters around, sorry)
i did had a short opportunity to drive the Boxer.about for mil. not been a Van driver on any regularity, i have nothing to compere it to. i was impressed with how quite the cab is, but the was some quacking coming form the back door area, and the dashboard was very nice. been on the short side, i could not see the hood even if i try.
any questions ?
