I am currently a "team" straight truck driver and I am considering switching over to becomming a cargo van owner operator....can anyone
give me some info on how the freight moves with this? Is there anyone out there that has made the same switch? I would appreciate any info that anyone can supply.

Thanks,

There must be some kind of van virus going around as you are at the end of a long line of straight truck drivers that are contemplating downsizing your vehicle and your earning potential. We don't know the reason you would want to do this. Perhaps you're a co-driver that wants to strike out on your own. Perhaps you are leased on to a carrier that hasn't satisfied you with sufficient straight truck freight. One of these two situations might provide you with a good reason to want to drive a van.

There are lots of pro and con opinions about van operations and I would imagine it too be a real tough call for you. My best suggestion is for you to get to the Mid America Truck Show in Louisville at the end of March. You'll be able to talk to nearly every national carrier recruiter and company reps as well as drivers from all of the companies. They will all be located in an area called the Expedite Experience

Hope to see you there,

Terry

I don't own any vans but I would take a very close look at net revenue prior to any change. Many companies have a freeze on taking on any vans. I would highly suggest investigating those reasons.
As Terry mentioned, talk to as many drivers as you can to see ALL of the picture.

I wish you luck with your research. I've thought about it a number of times for the maneuverability and being able to park pretty much anywhere. I still think the Aerocell 17' by Unicell could be built out to an amazing unit. If I ever do decide to go 'vanning' I'm going to try to hire dieseldoctor to build it out for me. Good luck again.
