Hopefully that one paid you a round trip rate or it was a big loser. I won't go to Florida for anything less in a big truck and that's at my percentage leased to a carrier. They don't pay it often but when they do it's a great trip. Options back to where I want to go from FL are stupid cheap or just plain cheap if you deadhead farther. Either way it's bonus money. Never go to a deadend does not produce anything state like FL unless the rate pays all the way back empty. Only suckers do it for less. They expect to pay like that or the reefers hauling dry are available/able to do it much cheaper. Let em have it or it sits on the dock. Or gets brokered to a sucker right?

Not many loads out of Canada to Florida are gonna pay a round trip rate.

I go into Fl when I can, my rates are anywhere from 1.4 to 2.12 a mile depending on the agent I'm dealing with. Once in Fl it might take awhile to get a load out and the rates I get out of Fl are anywhere from 1.3 to 1.5 a mile depending on agent. Don't get me wrong it could be dead in Fl also, just like other areas.

they never find freight coming back..sometimes out of Ny, Ohio or Michigan.. if youre lucky

but they pay between 84 cents to 1 CDN per km depending on the company doing the run for

im getting 2138 for the trip to north Miami Beach from Toronto. its just under 2400km.

justdid a conversion that's 1488 miles. so on the way there imgetting paid. 1.44 a mile. but nothing on way back.

unless I find a load or One of their candian clients puts in call for a pick up in the US returned to them. its not a very bg company work for all the clients are in southern Ontario 90percent of freight is Inbound to U.S.

what i have noticed tho that is pretty **** is the fact that the further you go the load is more competitive and the carrier will match the lowest quote just to get it..

some stuff ive done to just new York city for example paid 800 and florida ismore than 3x farther and pays only 2100.
it would hav been nice to take a 250 load to buffalo or anythg with it.. didn't work out

if there is a free net Load board for cargovans would someone please let me know never know might b useful

Can a Canadian driver do runs point to point in the US? I know that we Yanks can't do inside-Canada runs, only cross-border ones...

This ain't good. Seems I hear a lot of folk deadhead out of Florida, just to get out of Florida before trying to get any work. There's nothing in "The Sunshine State" that pays the cost of fuel to haul it, so-- unless you have relatives down there and want to visit for a bit, why stay? Personally, I'm not sure I'd attempt to get work going back-- to Canada in your case-- until I got at least as far as Tennessee.

Ive only been to Florida once but got predispatched before I unloaded kind ive killed my plans to go to coco beach but I definitely would not of stayed longer than 24 hrs anything longer just kills time that could make revenue elsewhere sacrifice my pond save the queen simple logic imho

I hope the OP & others who don't know about the laws will pay attention, because if they get caught picking up & delivering within the states, US Customs & Immigration will impound vehicle and cargo, [and keep it] then declare the driver 'persona non grata' in the US. There are a few exceptions, but you need to know what they are and when they apply.
Many US drivers are unaware that picking up and delivering within certain states requires an intrastate permit, as well.
I didn't know it, years ago, until I got caught without one in Alabama on a Level 2 inspection, lol.

One more thing to add to this, make sure you stop at the agricultural inspection when you enter and leave Florida most of the time they just wave you through, but all they will ask you is what you are hauling.

I stopped there twice last week: inbound, they asked what I was hauling. I said "Cabinets" and they not only looked at the BOL, they made a copy of it. [Never noticed them do that before.]
Outbound, they didn't even ask, just waved me through. Weird!

We get the occasional load to Canada. We don't have any drivers who want to go up there, so I usually end up trying to broker those to Canadian carriers looking to get home. If I spot anything tomorrow, I'll let you know.

I used to go to FL quite often, not so much any more, but I remember one time over the years they made a copy of the BOL. I drive a Sprinter.
