Prayers go out to the family. For all those who were saying in a past thread they never feel dangers in certain areas, this is a wake up call to always be aware of your surroundings. There are lowlife scums everywhere.

Yeah, from the picture in the article, he was clearly parked in a dangerous area and should have been more aware of his surroundings.

I think he was parked next to his Brother's house. Probably had a false sense of security.
I hauled gas locally in Chicago. There are areas that are unsafe at noon, much less after dark.
I'm sure the same can be said about Detroit,St Louis, and most major cities.

Englewood is something of a war zone. Of course, the Canadian truck driver didn't know that, and it may have been peaceful near the house at the moment-- but still, Englewood is not a great place to be.

I know what you mean: a comfort level he probably wouldn't have had if he didn't have family so close, but any sense of security is mostly false.

The thing about calling some areas 'unsafe' is the implication that other areas are 'safe', which simply isn't true.
We could follow every tip for securing our safety ever devised, and still be a victim of senseless violence.
I hope the scum are found and incarcerated for the rest of their sorry worthless lives.
If there's a fund for the driver's family, I hope someone will post a link.

That was kinda my point. Being aware of his surroundings wouldn't have really helped him in this case. It certainly didn't help I woman I knew who was carjacked at a Sonic restaurant at 1PM lunch in the very upscale area of Germantown outside of Memphis. It ended very badly for her and het dog in a rural field just west of town.

Turtle you completely took what I said and twisted it as usual. It's ok that because I expected it from you "Mr. Perfect". All I was simply stating is in areas that are known to be hotspots for gangs such as Chicago,Detroit,Memphis etc. always just look around before getting comfortable. We don't know if the driver saw them and just imagined they were walkers or if these guys snuck up on him. I dont assume anyone out here is a nice guy. If I am in a known bad area and there are guys that look to be up to no good I don't stop.

I don't normally say any thing but if you don't know Memphis STAY away.I know I will catch it but hope you don't make a wrong turn.Or stop when some one tries to flag you down.

Hope they find who done it and let the family do the same to him or them. That would stop a lot of killings or what ever happens to some one else.

Thanks for twisting what I said in order to take a lame personal pot shot at me, especially since I was commenting on Slo-Ride's original comment, not yours.

I worked with a guy who's 70 year old mother was car-jacked,raped,murdered,and dumped in the woods.
The three sons drove the area for days. They found her car, which lead police to the bad guys who where using it as a daily driver.
The bad guys went to prison.
One son was counting the days til they got out to get his revenge.
I lost track of them,do not know the final chapter of the story.

Been to Memphis twice. The part I was in, you didn't have to know much. It just looked nasty. I made my delivery-- fortunately, that place is gated with active security-- and got out. Down near the rail yards, not too far from the airport, and when I saw warnings here to stay away from the truckstop there-- well, you don't have to look twice to see why.
