Full story here.

It's hard to say what impact if any this will have on those of us who cross the border from time to time. The Canadian Trucking Alliance seems to be enthused about it.

To me, at least, the bottleneck still starts at the customs brokers desk. The wait for electronic clearance is insane at times. Hopefully this will help. I guess we'll see.

& how much is this going to cost me ?

not being sarcastic here, but if it was about saving time and money, there was a mentions of systems integrations, not on the Gov. side, but on the trucker side.
I'd beth'yha it is going to require us to obtain an new 'trusted trader card' !
if it was bout saving money, they would've consult the drivers associations, and integrated the already existing background check Via the CDL, HM card or Twic.
Or on the shippers side via the 'safe shipper' records on Passengers planes bordering cargo.

But NO.
this is just another way of the Gov. in both side of the borders increasing birocracy, and telling the small drivers they have a new fee needs to be paid.

the honorable CTA is NOT a trucking trade mark, it is a shippers representative. what they are after is allowing more 'marginal truckers' to cross border, nothing less. the CTA/ATA are the ones that are being hit the hardest to Date, not the good O'l IC.

That's all good and well but really is it needed?

Most of the issues seem to be with the added regulations that were added for protection but have done nothing more than take up more time and money. Maybe reviewing the procedures from 2000 and going back to them would be a bit more realisitic than changing something that may not work well again.
