Can you take it with you thru border both ways without getting in trouble.?
1. Buddy heater 1lb gas cans?
2. 5g gas can full?
3. Pepper spray?
4. Is there any food products you not allowed to take thru?
5. Which way is better to go from Columbus Ohio to Honda of Canada in Alliston Ontario? Detroit closer. Buffalo 65mi longer.

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. No
4. Yes (potatoes, dog food, live minnows). Other foods like meat, fish, veggies, have a strict limit.
5. Buffalo is actually only 10 miles longer, depending on which route you take once you are in Canada, but 30-60 minutes quicker, but more tolls. I'd go Buffalo. Fewer potholes and you don't have to deal with US 23 out of Columbus. But, if you're picking up on the west side of Columbus, Detroit is the way to go. But really, flip a coin.

Thanks. I routed from west side. I was thinking on Canada side gas, food everything is more expensive so it should equal out about even. I'm leaning more towards Buffalo more familiar with it. Is one border any better than the other?

I'd cross at Port Huron/Sarnia. The bridge is less busy going in to Canada and you can avoid the Buffalo to Toronto corridor completely by going the back way to Honda on hwys 21 and 89. No tolls either and the bridge is $3 vs $6 in a van.

BUT then again..if in a van everyone forgets about Lewiston..great crossing, you can fuel up on the reserve and make Allison and return on 1 tank of fuel depending on fuel mileage...

The extra tolls and bridge charges more than offset any fuel savings let alone the pita of driving the QEW and 400 series hwys.

Don't forget to add "border premium pay" to the load before taking any cross border loads. Crossing the border can be a hassle. Going into QC requires even HIGHER pay, due to the hassles of that province.

Sumptin like that. We like to get between .25 to .50 per mile more than we would take for a similar load that stayed in the US. "Hassle pay". We try to avoid spending weekends in Canada and DO NOT take loads to QC that would keep us there over a weekend. Not worth the hassle.
