Can They Drag Their Feet....

The dutch offered 2 or 3 world class skimers 3 days after the leak started...barrys minions said no...at day 52 they relented and sent flys to get parts and pieces from the dutch to "upfit" 2 american vessels...if they had taken the original offer, the ships would be working in the gulf now....

No one blames barry for the spill....but they sure can rightfully so blame him for the clean up responce....hell they stopped oil skimming the bobby gindal started to make sure the vessels had life jackets....then they stop the building of the sand bars because of what the sand they are bring in might have in it that might cause issues...i guess the oil making land fall isn't a big issue...i mean barry said...'if it makes land fall, we will just clean it up"....

No practial experience in anything let alone leading the way gets you what you are seeing now.... angain he sits up a "commission" fills it with his "Green" buddies that know nothing about disaster responce or are any type of enginneers that would have the ability to figure out the mechanical aspects of this mess...all they are looking to do is find a way to use this mess to push 'cap and tax..or the "climate agenda" that the libs want...

I am confused, why does a ship have to have permission to clean up an oil spill (leak)?

Maybe Jindal can invite the ship to N.O. port for state sponsored testing within the shore of the state?

I think if the people can't see what's really going on here in the gulf states, then they deserve what they get. It seems to go back to who represents the states?

Those oil wells are in fed controlled waters and the oil companies pay a "Lease fee" to drill in them....

By the way, i heard today that BP is moving one of its deepwater rig to drill in deep water of the coast if libya....

Considering this ship is foreign owned and flagged, the Jones Act probably comes into play when its service is requested. Of course the Oborat bureaucrats will probably have to check it for flotation devices and fire estinguishers before allowing it to suck up oil from the Gulf. See what a great job the Boy President and his lackeys are doing with this situation? Keep in mind they're going to administrate our health care if they get their way.

Getting rid of the jones act would make perfect sense, BUT...the unions would never stand for it..(another reason to get rid of it) those foreign flagged ships that enter into port have a "pilot" brought out from the port to bring the ship into port.....a "union pilot".....then you have "union long shoremen" unloading them, that c ould be handled by the ships crew on some ship, not all but alot of them....so while it makes sense to get rid of the jones act, not going to happen.....

Well I know that the gulf people should be looking to recoup their losses from the unions and Obama, not BP at that point.

It's funny, everyone trashed Bush when Katrina happened. The people of N.O. blamed him for things that the state should have handled. But now the state wants to handle the problem and Obama is sticking it to them and no one is telling them he is more evil than BP.

One of the things that is popping up is the fact that any settlement for lossed wages will be taxable.....no depending on how the fund is set up, these people are going to get hit hard with taxes on a big lump sum or they could spread the settlement payment out over time a lower their tax exposure...either way they will pay...but in barrys rush to show he had a handle on this his lack of experience showes again in that he had no idea what to real do or how to set the fund up to maximize the benefit to the people.....or did he and he did it to benefit the irs......

Yea and??

So if they get hit hard with taxes, is it BPs fault?

NO

So like Katrina, 9/11 and Pearl Harbor, maybe it is time for Obama to step up and demand congress pass a bill exempting them from taxes?

I thought he was the president?

Oh that's right Bush had the republican congress pass the tax thing for 9/11 and Katrina. Maybe those who voted for Obama should think about it.

Sorry I sound obtuse, I listened to some N.O. chef b*tch that she could not get N.O. sea food and is suing BP. I think there should be a limit on this and if not we should get compensated for work we could have done for the oil companies. But anywho as one of the people who deals with Fish (I think he is still called a Fish Monger), a lot of the fish she gets at her place comes from overseas or Mexico.

There are two things you don't mess with, Texas, and a New Orleans chef.

actually it was 12 ships...see Dutch law:

The Dutch (Netherlands) offered assistance of 12 state (country) owned hi-tech vessels that can handle 400 cubic meter per hour. Each ship that was offered at that time exceeded ALL the cleanup capacity in the Gulf of the entire US operation. The reason the country owns them is because if a company has an oil leak, blowout, etc. they must demonstrate the ability to contain the spill within 12 hours. If the company cannot contain their problem, the Dutch government sends their equipment in to clean up the mess and sends the company the bill. I digress....

The first offer from the Netherlands was on April 23, 2010 through political channels and our State Department (on instruction from the White House) said, "thanks but no thanks". "If there's a country that's experienced with building dikes and managing water, it's the Netherlands," says Geert Visser, the Dutch consul general in Houston.
As of May 5th 12 other governments had also been turned down through political channels often relaying excuses of "the Jones Act".
You can read more about these facts in the article at the Financial Post written by Lawrence Solomon entitled" Avertible Catastrophe".

I am not sure about the particulars of each of the other 12 countries offers but here is some of what the Netherlands was offering to our government:

Never mind all of this was offered to the US for free!!!

We could have been collecting an additional:
105,684 gallons(2,516 barrels) of oil per hour,
2,536,320 gallons (60,391 barrels per day)per day ,
or 17,754,240 gallons (422,720 bbl) per week.

Oh wait that’s per ship , there were 12 offered so that makes this total a whopping 3,804,624 BARRELS OF OIL.

Multiply that out at (Jun27) market price of $78.86 and the grand total in lost oil is $300,032,648.64 so far.

SO NOT ONLY HAVE WE REFUSED HELP FROM OUR FRIENDS BUT WE HAVE EFFECTIVELY THROWN AWAY 300 BILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF CRUDE OIL AND LET IT DESTROY OUR SOUTHERN COASTLINE!!!

Repeal the Jones Act

From the administration;

'... even though the offer is a good one from other countries, we don't have cubic meters of oil, we have gallons so their metric ships may not work ... and that is why the President is not considering a waiver. '

Haley Barbour weighs in on the OBorat administration's ineffectiveness:
Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour tells NPR's All Things Considered today that he was "shocked" to discover three weeks ago that the Coast Guard had no way to effectively coordinate hundreds of vessels deployed to fight the Gulf oil spill.
The Coast Guard, he said "... did not know where they were, did not have any system to identify them on the water, to tell where they were, had no method to communicate with many of them."
Mississippi Governor 'Shocked' By Coast Guard's Gulf Spill Coordination : NPR

It's just too bad the mainstream media hasn't held OBorat to the same critical standards they applied to Bush during the Katrina crisis. But since they're the ones who effectively sold him to the American public, eating crow is tough at this point. However, there will be a point in time when evidence of his incompetence is so overwhelming they'll disavow their allegiance as though it never existed.

I've thought so too....history is not going to be very nice to him but in the meantime........
