Camp Nelson National Cemetery is located in Jessamine County, Kentucky... about 15 miles south of Lexington. As a National Cemetery, any veteran of the US Armed Forces who was discharged under any condition other than "dishonorable" is eligible to be buried at Camp Nelson. Likewise, their spouse and children are eligible.

Veterans and qualifying family members are provided at no cost a burial plot, headstone, draped flag, labor involved with burial, perpetual maintenance of gravesite and Taps played at service.

Camp Nelson National Cemetery currently has approximately 12,000 buried with a capacity of 30,000. Camp Nelson often buys adjacent fields to expand capacity.

*** TRIVIA*** Camp Nelson National Cemetery has one Medal of Honor recipient: Private William M. Harris, Company D, 7th Cavalry: Killed in Action on 25 June 1876 during Battle of the Little Big Horn, Montana. (Custer's Last Stand).

My parents are buried in Houston National Cemetery. It is the second largest of all the national cemeteries, Arlington National Cemetery being largest. It too always is beautifully cared for. I wasn't aware children could also be buried in the national cemeteries. There are at least four Medal of Honor recipients interred there.
