building a roll up door

I have a ford cutaway van with a supreme body. The previous owner eliminated the roll up door & built a single opening door out of plywood. I need to go back to a roll up door. The tracks are still there & I watched a couple of videos on how to install a door & I figure I can buy the rollers , counterweights, stops & hinges direct from the factory. I'm just wondering about measurements & cutting. Has anyone ever attempted this?

I had a roll up/overhead door on my Volvo straight truck. It was made of a wood of some type or a sealed press board. I couldn't keep paint on it. The wind wash, sand, dust, and winter chemicals all ate away at my door. I spent a good deal of time looking at rebuilding the panels using some type of exterior aluminum clad, but never got around to doing it. This said, it didn't look difficult. The toughest part is getting the tension right on the spring bar. I would suggest going to Menard's or Home Depot and looking at the garage door instructions. Aside from the locking hardware it's about the same.

You can order the door panels from a door company and put them on yourself. I would say this is your best bet as it would cost you more money in the long run to try to build your own panels that may not last you as long. The panels come with the seals that you need to keep water out.

Also, any trailer repair shop should be able to order you everything you need in the size you need.

just be careful with the cables when it comes time to tension them, they will hurt if they get away from you.

I'd say a roll up door is a job left to a professional.
Getting the cable adjustment right is critical. The rollers have adjustment also.
A poor adjustment will cause waterleaks or premature roller wear.

Why not just go to supreme body and buy the correct parts there
Nothing says lame than fighting with an ugly door at a shipper more than that, unless you break a spring at the dock while loading.....saw that last month at a pickup!

The box on my truck was a Delta-Waseca. It had no weather stripping between the panels or on the outside surface at the joint. It was just a tight fitting joint.
