great, now they are naming winter storms!!

The Weather Channel gives its rational for naming winter storms here. I don't think much of the idea. The impacts of a wniter storm almost never rise to the threats hurricanes and tropical storms pose. I see this as a cheap trick to overdramatize the weather in yet another way and thereby attract more viewers. The Weather Channel lost me as a viewer/listener/reader a long time ago because of that very thing.

I was disappointed to see today that WeatherUnderground, my favorite weather web site, has also picked up the naming of winter storms. This is just stupid. I'm now putting time into weather.gov to learn that site and get my weather information from a source where the weather is reported, not dramatized.

weather.gov The home page has two address bars to enter zip code or city. I like the top one because it gives a 7 day forecast. I don't know for sure but a lot of TV channels might get some of there info from there as well.

A friend in Detroit Radio used to make fun of the hyped wx reports..." There's a snowflake, and another one, there's one over here ! " pretending to be a location reporter.

Please don't tell me the next storm is named "Caesar". I wouldn't be surprised if they did do that, though.
