Broke down during a loaded run?

If you break down as an O/O during a loaded run, are you covered by any type of insurance with the Carrier (panther)or would I be entirely responsible for repair bill?

Panther will usually hook you up to a wrecker and then pay it and then send you a huge bill. I would never ever let a wrecker hook up to my equipment. The most I would do Is have myself towed to a shop that has a forklift and let then send a swap unit to that loacation to recover the freight.

I hope the repair bill isn't all that bad. It's things like this that can put some O/O's out of business. I really don't envy any of you guys now that I am manning a desk. Look at what happened to OVM recently and the whole situation with Xiggi and his sprinter. It isn't all that much fun when your truck starts acting up.

They couldnt find a local wrecker anywhere (pecos texas)but they did find a local mechanic, who did come out and fix my van..they wrote him a comchek and r taking the money out of my settlement.. .Im going to get it looked ay again wen I get to el paso, but the good thing is they didnt swap the freight and im still not behind on drop off time.. I guess the heat took its toll on the altenator, but there was no warning signs, I just lost power , I pushed the gas, the battery light came on, power steering shut off, then motor shut down.

Your not kidding..between the new engine and now the deer hit, I am out 20K not including downtime....that would put quite a few out of business....

We have CIS for our insurance. Wheb our transmission went, the load was transfered from our van to another. Then we towed to the neareat authorized repair shop, for free, as a perk of the roadside assistance.

Yeah, I had CIS for about a month, until I had trouble collecting payment from LRT, and couldnt afford to pay them... even with the ten day extension. I was hoping Panthers insurance had something like the roadside program.

no one gives anything as a "perk"...it is in the cost of the policy really.....even 4 bucks more a week in cost will be far more then a AAA membership in the long run...

What are some signs that the Transmission is going out. I had an altenator repaired last night, but im thinking that may not have been problem after talking to mechanics in El Paso, just an easy repair that the 24 hour mobile repair guy could milk. I was driving on interstate between Dallas and El Paso, about 400 miles into the trip, no hills, but was over 100 degrees, but engine wasnt overheated, when the van started to lose power, wouldnt shift gears, then power steering quit, then battery light came on, then car shut down.

IF it was the altenator alone...your warning light should have come on earlier then it did....also you would have been running on just what power was in the battery....with AC?blower motor and headlights....you didn't have much time....you should have noticed your headlights getting dimmer as power decreased......

roadside repair...they seen him coming...LOL

I bet they were smiling as well. I don't want to ad any more than that, I know he's feeling pretty down right now. We were talking just a couple days ago about someone wanting to buy a 4,000 dollar van and having 1k left over and running on advances. Thats a good example and a good learning experience. Hope business remaines good for the next few months to help him get going again.

he should take it to maybe Auto Zone while he is there and have the charging system checked out...I believe they do it free there....

They might, it does sound electrical. A bad alternator killed the battery maybe. Check the cables and grounds as well.
