To anybody new viewing threads, like tires, brakes, front-end, etc.
If you are new to the business, you may get the wrong idea from some of the things I've posted. If you are not a mechanic, in the interest of safety, go with 2 or 3 opinions at different shops to help make a determination.
My opinions on things like tires or maintenance are based on delivery experience and maintaining my own vehicles since 1991. I use shop manuals for procedures and torque values, or advice found here combined with those years of experience to safely run.
What is unsaid is, I inspect my vehicle daily even though it is not regulated and not required, carry spare parts and tools , and think nothing of stopping mid run to change out a questionable part or tire and have the experience and information to do so. I also keep up on information specific to the van I am driving every day, to round out the experience I haven't gotten yet.
I may be able to run a set of tires for 200,000 miles for example, but for God's sake don't think you can just because I did. That was a controlled route and speed, and I have equipment to do alignments as many times as I want for free.
Just thought I'd throw that out there for all the new members I see coming in. A little information can sometimes be a bad thing...my secondary hobby has always been working on as many cars and trucks as I could get my hands on
