The I-64 bridge connecting Louisville,Ky and New Albany,In has been closed abruptly due to worrisome cracks in the steel structure. News reports indicate traffic backups as commuters scramble to find alternate routes. Some reports estimate the bridge closure could last anywhere from 3 weeks to 6 months. A more detailed summary can be found at WKYT - Home

I had an occasion to over hear an engineer for a steel company in Dover, Ohio, talking about this very bridge. His story was that yes, there are beams with cracks in them. But, what actually closed the bridge is that there is one beam completely cracked into. He seemed to think they will be able to replace just the bad one and reopen it. Course, they have to make it first. This is what I heard in a restaurant. But he seemed to have been there and looked at it.
