Those big sleepers are nice, I always thought those sleepers on moving company trucks were cool too, until you see 4 guys pile out of them, and realize they all sleep in that truck. But for a 2 driver team..very nice.

Those trucks are great until you need to maneuver in a parking lot or through a city.

They don't. Or, I've never encountered a household goods setup like that. A couple of them are lumpers.

You know the problem with bad cops? They make the other 5% look bad.

I had to pick up at a convention center once, the docks were wedged into the side lot with less the 100 feet between the docks and the wall. I was behind a moving type truck with a 106" sleeper and a 53' trailer. The driver asked me to wait until he got into the dock because both docks opened up. It took him 15 minutes to get that truck into the far dock and i didn't think it could be done. It took longer to load me than it did him, he and his wife busted their butt to get all 53' stuffed and then waited for me to get loaded so they could leave.

My first impression was that they all stayed in the truck, but what you are saying makes sense..lumpers (local).

tell you a secret,
they have an 'air bag drop valve' on the back drive axle.
that makes turning radius way smaller, getting into tight places.

I heard a driver say that's not done anymore. He said he needed to replace a set and was told those types of dump valves can't be sold anymore.

There are many different valves options in the market, depending on applications.
we installed one on the Hino Expedite truck about 2 years ago, & my new trailer was spec't with one.
it can be as cheap as a 22$ line valve, & up to 6,500$ for a drive lift axle option.
you see, the problem with older tandem drive axles, is the differential locker was not build for that option.
in the new Peterbelt tractors, the ones with the disc brakes, its just a matter of tweaking the truck computer & installing the EOM dash switch.
my OTR carrier insists on installing those on long contractors trucks * at the time of orientation. makes serving it's costumers better then our competition, suddenly everyone's impressed with our drivers backing skills.

(*) the truck have a longer wheel base, not a tall driver...
