Yeah, I've seen quite a few at grocery stores. The only drawback with those is they are NOT open 24/7, making it difficult to return at certain locations and times.

They're like Kodak finally realizing that there's such a thing as digital photography; about a decade too late.

I bet BB is BK by year's end.

We have redbox's here and they just recently put one outside most all the walgreens.
I had a prediction about ten years ago that the video stores would be closing. I am suprised they are hanging on so long:rolleyes:

I can't remember the last time I "rented" a DVD. A few years ago maybe? I prefer to stream them from Netflix.

The Movie Gallery store in town is closing down here. It is the only video rental store. With 3 Red Boxes and Netflix I don't see how they could have stayed in business much longer than they did. The bad thing about it is that was a few decent jobs for college students here in town. Believe it or not there really aren't many decent jobs for them here in this wanna be college town.

The problem with streaming them is that you have to have an excellent signal. Many times, even with a decent signal for other things, it's just not quick enough for streaming.

Sitting at home with broadband cable or something, streaming is fine. But out here on the road, either the connection won't allow it, or the GB bandwidth caps make it impractical. Most often out here you'll get between 250-800k speeds, with brilliant flashes of 1.5Mb speeds on occasion, but for streaming you need a rock solid 1.5Mb minimum. I'll get that with the Aircard most of the time, but with a 5GB cap, that's only good for 3 or 4 movies a month if I do any Web surfing at all.

I sure hope the stand alone places hold out for a few more years, as my younger daughter is one of the college students Ark referred to, working there, [with a 2nd part time job as well.]
I can't ever get enough speed to stream movies, but that's ok, I don't enjoy watching them on the 'puter anyway.

Just found out the Droid(Verizon) can be tethered to your computer
I have not tried this, but with the unlimited data plan it is something to consider

There are two data plans for the Droid. One is the $29.99 Unlimited Data Plan for Web and e-mail, and the other is the Mobile Broadband plan, that is to be use while tethering, and is capped at 5GB.

The $29.99 plan specifically prohibits tethering in the Terms of Service of the plan.

I bring that up because it's something to be aware of. Now, having said that, if you tether using the PDANet app, there's no way Verizon can tell for sure that you are tethering, unless you go crazy with torrents or streaming video and consistently blow past 5GB's a month. I have an Aircard, and to ensure that I don't go over the 5GB cap on it, I'll tether. The last 3 months I've about 4GB on both the Aircard and the Droid. :)

I just got a new 2 year contract with Verizon to get a new air card and I was surprised that they didn't make me go to the 5gb limit, I'm still unlimited.
