Is there such a thing as a black balling system in this biz I'm beginning to think there is something a fowl going on . It's not me my safety record and On time pu and delivery is spotless so I'm not sure at all what's going on here!

The small amount of cartage we do for bolt is rolling strong right now but it has been explained to us that we need to say YES even if it's a loser I'm not sure if that's going to get us "black balled" by bolt but it made us think it would kill the work for at least a while!

Good luck on your search!!!☺

if you don't money on a load , why would you say yes
at ceva if it don't pay don't call me
I have taken runs that don't pay but made it up in D time, and inside delivery charges , and the hand off load

Making a dollar or two is on a load is OK for one or two loads if it gets me high pay later for p!aying as part of the team to expand business if they get more loads then I will get more loads one hand washes the other kinda though ......or that's the way we try to look at it

Might it not be a black ball list but a white ball list? By that I mean, might brokers and shippers have their list of favorites who have served them very well in the past, and those are who they call first?

If I had loads to book and the freedom to choose one carrier or truck over others, I'd go to my favorites list first. Maintaining a black ball list would be a waste of time. If I had a load to cover, I would not think, who shall I not give this load to? I'd be thinking about who will I give the load to. Who can I call first to cover this load worry-free and move quickly onto my next task?

Favorites don't get picked because the disliked carriers are first passed over. Favorites get picked because they are favorites.

When Diane and I drove with Landstar, where agents have the freedom to choose the trucks they use, we did not become favorites because we charged a fair price and delivered safely and on time. Almost all expediters do that. We became favorites because we helped the agents (human beings) feel good about picking us.

That included thank you notes after the run, excellent communications during the run, making it easy for them to find us before they had a load to dispatch, etc. The agents who picked us knew they had a well-dressed, well-equipped, highly professional team; and if they did not know that, we sent them photos and messages to make sure they would.

In a business where your customers have many options to choose from, it's not enough to be good enough. In a business where almost all of your competitors serve customers well, marketing matters more than merit. Merit is the cake. Marketing is the frosting that draws the eye and makes the mouth water.

I used that principal at previous carrier, , I would take a load to be a "team player", the next day I would talk to the same dispatcher and he/she wouldn't even know my name. That's the main reason I left.

This in the same vain as playing for the team as a team member is it not?

Manager what did you do different at next carrier?

Tried that too. Ended up bringing down rates because if you did it once they'd expect it from now on

Tknight...don't know what to say...i do know anything that pays gets done by their trucks, anything that doesn't gets offered to you and me, and the only things that pay well for you and me are blind luck

My strategy is ridiculously cheap expenses but I'm getting to be too old for all the work that means

The stock markets taking off, cross your fingers it makes some real growth chase it

Did nothing different, good work ethic rules. However, I am and do feel appreciated at CRE. And being part of an appreciative team IS (to me) more important than money.

The dispatcher is the human link in the chain of assigning load. Just like water. They find the easiest path.
They don't take the time to call each option. FIFO goes out the window. They look at the vehicles, make call, and it's booked!

Part of a team?....I've been at 2 US carriers in my US career....thinking I was "part of a team" surprise...I was NOT.....The carrier is totally in charge...your only option is "yes or no".....or leave for another, what an owner operator thinks is for the most part irrelevent...as a "team" member I was NEVER asked for input on changing company policies..I was always just told that they were changing....told my contract was changing, told rates were dropping, told certain perks were no longer in effect or worse not told until I went to apply them and told then they were no longer available or at a reduced rate.....when was the last time you negotiated with a carrier about your contract? It is a take it or leave it deal...here is our terms...NO input is required nor requested from valuable team member....
Carriers lip sync very well....Team...partner? My s$$....They treat us like employees, they just can't help themselves to not treat us O/O's as equals....They'll never see us as businessmen like themselves and treat us, respect us accordingly...Most don't know, neither do they even care about how much it costs us to run our businesses...while they continue to chip away at rates so they keep their profit margins...There is no level playing field for us O/O's....of course the qualifier...IMO

Nice rant......:p

for the most part...when you have an issue with 1 dispatcher at a bigger carrier...as soon as the load is booked and dealt with, the issue is gone as well, you can call the next day talk with the same person they don't remember the last load....BUT I have seen dispatchers throw the phone across the room when a driver has turned down a "valuable" load in thier opinion and swear they'll never dispatch that guy again..at least till the next valuable load....LOL

Why do I get the feeling I wish I said all that above.
For sure there is no WE in team. Answer is always in the top pocket when things go sour for the O/O.
You've been around.....you know that feeling, as they pat you on the back, they are picking your pocket at the same time....attaboys come cheap....show me the money...

Never mind, he is about to lose his Socialist Party membership ring. Don't know what JuJu has been feeding him but substitute "Dishonest Press" in place of "Carrier" and I think I already saw that same rant on twitter this morning
