The Ides of March have been really slow for me. I hope the Calens of April will prove to be better.

Calends or Kalends are both the correct spellings. Calends were the beginning of the month on the Roman Calender(English word derived from the Latin word Calends). Seven days later when the Moon was at its first quarter phase were the Nones of the month and the Ides were about 8 days later at the middle of the month.

Very good Marty- I'm impressed. I knew the Ides of March always referred to Ceasar's assassination. And yes, he allegedly turned to Brutus and said while dying, "You too?" However, the Ides was the Roman calendars term for the middle of the month, either the 13 or 15th depending on the number of days in the month. They used a 11 month calendar, which had to be re-set periodically.
I know this because there is an interesting explanation of the evolution of the calendar system on Encarta, if you have it. Ours is based on the Gregorian (Christian) calendar. Interestingly enough, the ancients had it right all along!:)

Really- one can learn something every day! If I remember these, I would go. Wonder if they still have the horns? or if that was studio musicians only? "Step inside my black sedan"
