BEWARE of BROKERS

BEWARE OF Brokers advertising on this website wanting to lease Trucks, Sprinters & Vans on. If the brokers does not also have Carrier Authority & you are not running on your own authority you might be running into big problems headon. It is my understanding that Brokers are not legally leasing on a truck if neither have Carrier Authority. BE SAFE CHECK THEM OUT FIRST.

A Broker with a brokers license does not lease on vehicles unless that vehicle has their own authority and insurance. A licensed broker won't load a truck until they have the truckers authority and insurance in hand and lists them as an approved carrier. As far as Sprinters and C/Vans you don't need authority under 10k just insurance. Most will not take insurance certificates from the trucker, they must be forwarded from the insurance carrier listing the broker on the certificate. :eek:

You mention someone on this site. There must be something someone missed, I don't believe Lawrence would let people advertise if there was something amiss.

I might want to change my statement somewhat. A broker does not lease a carrier, they use a carrier to haul the brokers freight.
They can enter an agreement with the carrier to act as an agent for that carrier but that's a differant animal.

That's true, does seem that way when you look at it several times. It's hard to explain how brokers work with carriers and vice versa, especially when you start throwing in Logistics companys.

Brokers and Freight Forwarders contract carriers to move a load. That carrier leases, by way of contract, a truck to perform the move. An individual/driver may be both the carrier and the truck. That just makes it a company truck. No driver lease required if operated by an employee.

Most of the carriers who advertise on this site are also brokers in addition to being carriers, and I would imagine that most are on the up and up.

Go to the Home Page then to column to the right with heading **5 Star Carriers**. If you check FMCSA Company Snapshot I am sure you will find at least one company listed as a 5 Star Carrier in fact has Broker Authority only. If I am wrong please let me know! Also, when you click on thay company it takes you to a page advertising truck wanted, fill out info. I believe you will see what I am talking about.

You want to check Licensing & Insurance Carrier Search and look up the company on there. You will see all MC numbers a company might have and a lot of times the broker authority will be a different MC, sometimes even a different company name.

To your point...I'm not aware of any carrier on our list that is not a "Motor Carrier". I'm not aware that broker can permanently lease a owner operator.

Yeah, that way they can skim another 10-20% off the top before offering the load to the driver:mad:
