A FDCC team was staying at the Ramada in across from the "J" in Dallas last night. Thier truck was broken into. They lost a lot of things including a computer. I think maybe we should all boycott Dallas until the cops and courts get thier act together. They are headed the wrong way. Saw a news report from here last night. The cops are no longer going to arrest people for petty theft. Just write them a $500 ticket and send them on thier way. What a world we live in today. Layoutshooter

I don't think it's fair to classify all of Dallas based on the area around the J. A few miles from there is a Love's that's significantly nicer and then there's Rockwall etc. that are basically Dallas as well. I won't go to the J area except in daylight and only long enough to fuel and leave.

And just lemme get THIS straight: the cops will just write a $500 ticket, for theft? So if you make sure to steal more than $500 worth of whatever, you can't lose, huh? What a world, indeed!
PS I'd never check into a motel & leave valuables in the truck.....all the thieves would find is what's in the fridge, that's turned off. And they'd be doing me a favor, if they cleaned it out.:D

Does it really matter why they got a motel room? No one should have to put up with this crap. Why do we accept crime as a nation? Not only accept it but excuse it. Even blame innocent people for the crimes, not the criminal that committed the crime. It must be Bushes fault. Layoutshooter

You are right no one should but I wonder where are all the other truckers who were around the truck stop, didn't anyone bother to hear or see anything?

Doesn't Texas have property protection laws where you can kill the person stealing something and leave their body to rot to show others not to mess with Texas or did that go away with the Katrina 'victims' moving to Texas?

Also I have to agree, leaving valuables in the truck was not the best thing to do. I would also venture to say that if you are going to have to be in a high crime area, don't get a hotel room, stay with the truck as much as possible.

They simply forgot to take the one bag in with them. Where are the police? Where is our outrage? We should demand a safe life, we are entitled to that. We pay a fortune in taxes, most goes to support the BUMS that commit these crimes. Do away with welfare and bring back the WPA. Make them earn thier money. Don't whine about hurting the one's who can't work for what ever reason. If we put the BUMS to work there will be plenty to take care of the very few that really need it. Layoutshooter

When you call welfare entitlements and when you call discrimination affirmative action and when you call criminal aliens undocumented workers you can't expect adequate consequences for crime and you can't expect appropriate behaviors from the public. Thank you liberals for all your positive redefining of America.

Well said Leo!!

Oh, and by the way, these liberals who are redefining America are just as subject to the theft and criminal acts as the rest of us.

I always wonder how a liberal judge would feel having those criminals living next door to his home!

oh they don't let criminals of that type move into the gated ivory towers that most lib judges live in

why is it that our countrys educated eleit have turned out neighter, I blame the education system which has not produced a real techer in 40 years. the great techers we do have probable 15 or so for the whole county have done so in spit of the system

I guess if your partys purpose is to be in power period and not acually serve your county having voters that use critical thinking would be a bad thing

I'm guessing/hoping that in a few years the area around the Flying J will see some improvement when neighboring Lancaster starts work on the inland port that they just received authorization to build. It is six square miles (maybe more) of modern warehousing and dock facilities. The local politics of Wilmer-Hutchings is known for their corrupt backwardness, so if they don't manage to get on the train, I think the new developments will encourage better businesses catering to trucks nearby.

And if you want to rent a motel and be able to have your truck there Motel 8 off of 635 and Military here in the Mesquite area is nice too and they have a IHOP. I just have Morningstar either park the truck at the rockwall TA or in the FRY's parking lot as its on the way to my work and i can drop her off at the truck.
Everyone in one city or another have the "bad" spots, Don't down Dallas or Texas. And yes we do have the law that you can blow someone away if you think you or your property is in danger. Now how many of you Panther Drivers have guns in your turck. I know when i worked for Panther you couldn't, thats why i took my guns to my son in NH to keep for me.

Probably on their computers doing what one only knows

Not necessarily why they got a hotel room; but why in a known bad area? No, you can't blame them for the crimes; but you can blame them for making the crimes easier. They practically invited someone to steal from them. Chances are, the thief watched what they took to their room, and guessed correctly that they left valuables. Gotta be street smart... especially as a trucker. And know your surroundings; unlike the couple in question.
