Better Days Ahead ??

This past weekend while reading one of the financial sites (think it might have been Reuters) there was an article about how the Democrats in Congress want to propose a bill that will force the airlines to inspect EVERY piece of cargo that they fly.

Currently, they are obligate to inspect only a percentage of total loads.

The airlines response was, that, if this bill passes in 2007, they would stop flying ALL cargo because the costs would be astronomical and not worth their time and bottom line.

If this comes to pass, the extra work for Expediters would be incredible.

Stay tuned be safe.

NICE CATCH!!!

Just what the doctor ordered to raise our rates. Maybe we should lobby them ;)

Does the bill address the passenger lines only? That is air carriers that carry passengers and cargo on the same flight? If so, that would definately be a thick black bottom line for us. However, I can't inagine FedEx, UPS or DHL surviving.

Bravo, Letzrock! You figured me out. :)

I was getting tired of the Pope/Emperor and his hard to read humor ;)

The bill co-sponsered by Ms. Clinton, only applies to passenger flights.
Which - would of course still have a nice little ring for all of us.

I think Chuckwagon is correct. Regularly scheduled flites only.

I tender a great deal of small freight to the commercial airlines, and you would be amazed at how little they charge for a small but very important (to the customer) package.

For instance, Cleveland to Chicago via AA is usually less than $25.00 for something under 15 lbs.

While the cargo hold is gravy for the airlines, they have calculated they would be better off not having to inspect all freight.

But...they may be rattling their swords, looking for a compromise.

And...don't underestimate Greyhound. I tendered a 15 lb pkg going from Cleveland to Louisville this summer, and the total price was less than $20.00. They would love to compete with the airlines and expediting, but they have too many time constraints.

Be safe.

Yep... too many time constraints, and no space. I've never seen a skid go on a greyhound.
