Bashers

Reading this forum you come across all kinds. Like all forums, the bashers come out of the woodwork and just keep on bashing, hoping that they will find new recruits to support them in whatever their bash is. It´s ok to mention something negative about some expediting entity, if you think you have a legitimate gripe. If your carrier deals you a bad hand, don´t take it personally. We all get bad hands on occasion from our carriers. If it is personal, you probably deserve it, and on that rare occasion when you don´t, get over it. I´ve seen too many seemingly cause righteous individuals in trucking thinking that the tail will wag the dog, and that they are that all knowing, all important tail. They area very small cog in the big wheel, that wants to tell the wheel how to roll. Newsflas...it doesn´t happen! Post the negative things if you want, and then leave it at that. Each reader will analyze your content and then decide for themselves. And before you go on a rant, at least go into the archives to see if the same topic hasn´t been pounded ad nauseum. Don´t spend your time chastising the forum, or the moderators, because everyone is not jumping on your bandwagon. If you don´t like something or some entitiy in this industry, post it, let it run it´s course thru the threads, and move on. If you got the bad hand, EO didn´t do it, Lawrence didn´t do it, the poster who disagreed with you didn´t do it. It just got done. The BIG question is, what are you going to do about it? After all, it´s your dilemma no matter how you got into it. If you don´t like where you are in your expediting career, quit moaning and CHANGE IT! After the thread runs it´s course, it´s old news and so are you, so SHUT UP AND DRIVE! Or get a new line of work.

Well said Louixo,
Biz is slow for everyone and may be till year end. I would like to see post's that reflect on the first downfall of expedite(circa 2000).
I am interested in similar parallels to expedite as we know it today and more importantly what the forefathers of expedite (I won't name names) did to proactively weather the storm. I think we would all benefit from a little positive reinforcement that only experience can provide.
Oh by the way Loiuxo, didn't know you had a serious side.

One of the greatest benefits of this forum is the sharing of useful information that we all enjoy and find useful for maximizing our profit potential or truck enjoyment. As louis says, it serves no useful purpose for the readers of the forum to see carrier, owner or trucks sales folks being bashed without details of both sides of the story. Furthermore, these forums are not a very good vehicle for dissatisfied folks to communicate with their carrier, owner or sales folks. Complaints would best be resolved with oral or written communication with the affected parties prior to sounding off in public.

I too am interested to hear about the big slump of that time period and encourage those who lived through it to post about it in as much detail as they can. The only story I've ever heard about this period with factual numbers was from a driver who said he was in service 100% of the month, accepted 100% of all loads offered, and received a grand total of 3 offers in that month.

I must respectfully disagree with the "Biz is slow for everyone and may be till year end." statement. Business is not slow for Diane and me or for the friends we talk to in the industry.

It is very rare for a team to run out of log book hours but we did a week or so ago. We've been running that hard. With predispatched loads already lined up, we already know that in the next seven days, we will earn $6,800 and receive $1.68 per mile for every deadhead and loaded mile we drive.

Notwithstanding the delcine in general freight indicators, we see nothing on the horizon to indicate an expedited freight slowdown (at least at FedEx) before year end.

Additional good news is FedEx is NOT overexpanding the fleet in response to the busy time. I spoke with a friend in recruiting a couple days ago. While there has been a surge of interest in FedEx lately, they are sticking to their White Glove and Surface Expedite fleet-size targets and adjusting their recruiting activity accordingly.

One of the things I am beginning to appreciate about FedEx more and more is their long-term retention of management personnel. There was a time when FedEx overexpanded their fleet and the market hit the skids at the same time. The management folks that were there then are still there today. It is becoming increasingly evident (to me at least) that those folks learned an important lesson back then and they are not ones to make the same mistake twice.

##### Phil goes on the offense for a change! I am aware of the preventive steps Fecc has taken to protect their contractors and applaud them for their efforts. The cabash was put on W-glove and T-val recruitment a month ago. I will have to say however that you are the "exception" and not the rule Phil, so as to not mislead others when you are in the specialized programs of Fecc and I suppose Panther as well it is more a matter of luck (being in the right place at the right time) than a indicator of industry strength. Returning respect too you in that you have a great attitude and far as I can tell training in Explosives, Art DOD, has enabled you to choose from more freight opportunities and stay busy. The majority of expeditors are not necessarily privey to these options and even though they exist they are not plentiful. I contend that the industry that was built on the back of the average Joe in a 22' box full of door panels for GM and is headed for evolution or extinction.
Again with due respect I know you have worked on "The history of expedite" for awhile now and since I do value your story telling abilities please do share what you have so far from the avg Joes that got us to the point where we are today.
The goal for my response was not to bash anyone or company but to come up with ideas or solutions that are productive and helpful for those who sold the farm for a big little truck.

"Average Joe" here. My D unit and I have been back out since Aug 30 after some well needed time off. Been very busy and the money per mile has been fine. I only have "Ave Joe" 22 box/liftgate(no reefer or bombs etc) I did sit for four days in NJ because I wouldn't go north, my choice, sleep was good.. hope you other Landstar o/o are having a good year. Be safe And just say NO to cheap freight.

My 2 cents and the truth about the slowdown at "Fred Express Custom Critical" is ,my van and straight truck have been sitting more than moving ,all east of the mississippi.I know other fleet owners that are going to move to another company.Talks with "our insiders" at Green Oh.office, dont paint a pretty picture about loads versus the number of trucks,,over recruting, conway influx, panther drivers changing,,some FECC drivers seem to have a better "in" with the people at green.Lots of folks see some running with predispatched loads.$6800 weeks and the freight road the rosiest ever, this only feeds their hope of the same ,and for most it doesnt happen.Blessings for your good fortune and pray for the "rest of us" looking up at your lofty perch ,for only a select few are "being taken care of "by our respected companies....92%inservice 90%load acceptance

Well, If you think I'm bashing FedEx about the FSC. I'm Not I'm just telling the Fact's. I love working for FedEx. I just tell it like it is. I don't try to Sugar Coat it. FedEx has it's ups and downs and I have seen many things over my almost 13 years there.

David, the thread discussing FSC is a good example of what this forum is for. People talking about a change that effects everyone at FECC. You are certainly not bashing or complaining.

Louixo, great post. Someone actually complained recently that they were offered a load. What's next, complaining about being offered too much money?
