As I understand it, the name "Barry" was what his grandparents called him. At least, that is what I heard on a news report, whatever that is worth.

Be sure to take that with a grain of salt, I only heard it on a news report. We all know how accurate they can be!!

It was the name he used as a child all through high school dumping it while in college because he felt inferior to his classmates so to fit in a friend suggested the change back to his muslum name of barack.....

Here are 2 links that one that covers his history (or what there is of it)

SlickBarry.com - Barack Obama or Barry Obama - Meet Slick Barry

And this one from the huffington post on the name change:

This one has his High school senior picture and name barry.....

Googling barry obama will give you all kinds of reading on the topic.....

Good point, Chef. It seems that the majority of people, of all political persuaions, don't spend a lot of time educating themselves.

A case in point: Earlier tonight, I spoke with a lady, at a Halloween party, that told me, and I quote, "I don't know enough about either man running for Mayor to know who to vote for". I asked her if she had a computer, and she said she did. But she doesn't know anything about the candidates? I'm guessing that her lack of knowledge would apply to all who are running for office: Mayor, City Council, and School Board.

So, in effect, she is letting me, and all of those that vote, pick the folks that will run Charlotte/Mecklenbuurg government, for the next two years.

that is sad, she has the freedom and liberty to use her vote to voice her opinion and doesn't take the time to do so...and whats worse is that more and more the local and state elections are going to become more important that they have in a long time...those elected on the state and local level now will be those that push the elected fed reps out the door...

we need to start paying more attention to who is running for the local school board and city council and mayor and county commissioner and state reps and gov...with what the fed is trying to do to the states, we need strong candiates on the local and state level to fight back....right now, they are more important then the fed reps...
