Back Pain ?

I am looking to drive expedite freight soon. I saw a tv program last night that was talking about trucking. There was a chiropractor that said back pain among truck drivers was at an epedemic level. Do you guys have trouble with back pain or do some stretch or exercise to avoid such problems?

Thanks for any feedback.

Most expedited freight is no-touch freight, loaded by shipper and unloaded by the consignee, so I don't think we are included in the back injury statistics. The carriers with specialized divisions such as PantherII and FedEx Custom Critical's White Glove Division pay a premium for the drivers to lump the load but they are in the minority.

I suspect those that require chiropractic services related to trucking activities need it for reasons other than driving. Household goods, local delivery, flatbed, and grocery haulers are examples of truckers that would have back problems.

Also, most expediters keep ourselves in peak physical condition and avoid any exersion that would put a strain on the back.

L-5 in my lower back is no longer there.

Successfull Surgery Oct 01.

Keep stomach muscles strong and it keeps the pressure off the lower back, keep weight to normal level, a good pallet jack, gloves, and good work shoes not tennis shoes when you gotta get back there and work on the frieght.

Take a half mile walk a day and stretch.

Now I need to go take my own advice.

Take a minute to look around a couple of truck stops and you'll realize why back problems are prevailent in our industry. Too many trips to the buffet line. A bulging weak stomach equal a weak back with more weight than it was designed to support. Obesity is epidemic in our trade,(notice I call it a trade, not a profession).

Actually its epidemic throughout the country.

Truck driving and physical fitness is not synonymous.

one big thing is where is your wallet is it in you back pocket
and your sitting on it
if it is it is making sit off center and not sitting right
take it out of your pocket sit it in a safe place and take it out and put it in your pocket only when you need it
also how are your shoes if the heel's are off and they are old this will cause back pain, also are they good shoes to if they are low price you may pay for the low price
if i don't buy a good pair of shoes this first thing i look at
and don't sit on all the money to

Thanks everyone for the info and thoughts on this. I do not sit on my wallet. ;) Also I am into stretching, working out the abs and back, etc.. Plus I am not overweight at all and mostly have been active my whole life. Sounds like I may do o.k.

Thanks...
:)
