Once upon a lifetime ago I was a freshman in college. One of my "professors" was J. Maury Dean, of the "Woolies"
A garage band out of Ohio and Detroit in the '60's. Their main claim to fame was a cover of a Bo Diddley song, "Who do you love"
In 1969, at Monroe County Community College, we formed a band, STRUM, which stood for, "Student Team Researching Underground Music".
The college paid for us to record at the world famous "United Sound" in Detroit.
I know of only ONE remaining copy of our record, which my youngest son has. We recorded two songs, "Time Kinda Drags Me Down" and the "B" side, "Friends With the Wondering Wind".
During breaks, J. Maury would work on his "History of Rock and Roll", much of which can be found in the "Library of Congress". He would call "Little Richard" or "BO Diddley" on the phone to verify stories. We got to listen in.
Enjoy Detroit Garage band music at it's best. J. Maury "practiced" in the basement of my Dad's house. What fun those days were.
