i am averaging around 1100 miles a week right now..just like everyone else i am waiting patiently for this spring, when freight picks up......have a load sitting in the sprinter right now at home..have to deliver at 0500 to janesville wisconsin. so i will leave at 2.00pm and drive until the super bowl comes on, watch that then peddle my way to the cons, and drop my load...sure am glad that i am not delivering in the detroit area this weekend..ive talked to a lot of other van drivers, theres some doing more miles then i am but 1000 seems to be the average number of miles, with a few doing a lot less...also i heard from a fleet owner that panther isnt taking on vans right now...if thats true, there should be more freight, for the ones out there.. SPRING IS IN THE AIR (to bad its in a couple more months)

HI
Yep it's a good time to through all that time killing stuff(books,tv/vcr,knitting,ect) back into your truck.I get to start the week by calling my creditors.Aways a fun thing.Truck is still in the shop.2 weeks. They rebuilt tranny, removed differential cover (per Ford Tech)to check speed sensors, and checked wiring. Still can't keep truck from throwing codes. On the bright side I don't have to change differential fluid and tranny fluid and filter.

Bryan,

I'm curious - what exactly is wrong with your tranny? How many miles do you have on it?

HI
2002 Ford E350 7.3L 4r100 tranny with 288,000 miles.3weeks ago I was heading to Boston from Ohio during the thunderstorm that closed all the bridges in NYC.Was fighting alot of head winds some as hard as 50mpg wind gust. After a couple of hours of this the tranny started slipping. Also everytime I hit a bump the speedo would start bouncing from 65 to 50 mph.I emptyed in Boston and both problems quit (tranny fine speedo fine). Was an intermittant problem untill I got to CND.While sitting at a stop light the truck just jumps forward for no reason. After that it started slipping and speedo jumping all the time.

Tranny shop found the clutches burnt out and broken fins in torque convertor.Rebuilt tranny took it out for test drive came back to run codes.Sames codes as before.Cleared codes, checked wiring harness found nothing.Test drive same codes.Called Ford Tech services said to check speed sensors they checked out fine.

The computer is telling my tranny that Im going faster than I actually am.I did a filter change less than 10,000 miles ago and accidently put Mercon 5 in.But rebuild should of taken care of that.
You figure this one out and I'll buy you a steak.

In reply to trans problem have the people replaced the transline cooler filter if not that will cause the problem because it restricts flow to the torque converter which will bend fins:D

When they can't find anything else it's always the alternator. Was it charging OK before the transmission went out,I don't see a corelation but Ford knows best..

Brian,

Okay - glad to hear they have it fixed. Now, let's hope it works!

The reason I asked was because sometimes if a Ford has the battery removed for even a minute - it may cause the computer to send false signals to the tranny.

Hi
Well unfortunatly its going to be awhile before I find out.Van ran fine on the way home. But while checking oil and changing air filter a strange grinding noise started at the front of the motor.I put my head closer to hear where it was coming from (don't try this at home all stunts are performed by professional fools) just as the water pump bearing froze.Something flew off and hit me in the head.Fortunatly not a metal something.
Parts store has pump but not the right belt or top rad hose. Both should be in tomorrow.Right now the van is winning 2 to 0.I think it's time to give it an attitude adjustment with a really big hammer.
