What is the height range of automotive stacakable containers? if there is no real limit, what height are 80-90% of them under?

They vary, you can't get two stacked on a van, unless the are the 30 inch high ones that are used for electronics like instrument panels.

Or the popular 45x48x34 of which we Sprinters.and cubes can double stack and take 6 of....eliminating 1 straight truck..;)

I'm going to build a special aluminum box and just want to know what size they are, not that I can't do it in "X" truck. I will be able to stack if I get good intel . . .

As heavy as those tubs are, wouldn't six empty ones about max out the weight capacity on a Sprinter?

We're building an aluminum body box 17' long x 54" wide x ? high with 10,000 GVW and 4,200 lb cargo/driver capacity. We think there is an opportunity out there that increases every time the feds turn the screws up on DOT trucks. Its not a Sprinter, its better than a Sprinter.

That's why we are asking about stackable container heights.

Not built yet but you know it is better than a sprinter? Kinda jumping the gun there aren't you. Without real world testing hard to say it is a good as better than or equal too. Not sure how a box like that will match mpg. What chassis engine are you looking at?

Just to add, the rear door opening height on my 07 sprinter is 72" width between wheel wells is 53"

Special order Ford 4 wheeler with exactly 10,000 GVW . . . box builder guarantees "less than 1,200 lb box with an air dam on top of the cab" making the capacity. We have a 2006 3500 and a 2012 arriving shortly. We know Sprinters and their shortcomings. Just relax. Some people have to challenge everything . . .

Our new truck will have a Honda 2000 watt generator box built into the passenger side so we won't have the thing hanging out the front or back either.

If it's got dual rear wheels the DOT will give you troubles. If it's single wheel it's gonna be rather unstable on the highway.

Also, if it's single rear wheel make sure the tires on it can take a fully loaded truck. (IE the max weight of the tires matches, or exceeds Fords gross weight rating for the axle)

Not saying you can't do it, just that it's going to present a challenge. Good luck!

4 tires/wheels that are 265/75/16 Load Range E with a capacity of 3,415 lbs each. 4 tires save on tolls too!

Ok.. whats the bridge on this truck? 17ft box might just center it on the rear axle..

at just 4'6" wide.. where is your driver going to sleep?

The 285/75R16s rate 3,750 lbs each. I really doubt highway stability would be an issue . . . Ford already has thousands of 10,050 lb GVW 4 wheelers running the highways!

Are they 25+ feet long? When they are that long, that is when the cross winds get ya.

and they are 10,500 GVW. unless your going with the very short wheel base at 10,050 one. What exactly is ford doing to lower the GVW? just slapping a sticker on it?

I just don't see how a 17 foot box would work on a 138" wheel base truck.

I think they slap stickers on all of them. Actually, the 12,400 and 10,000 GVW 6 wheelers are EXACTLY the same, except the sticker. It ain't so unusual to downgrade GVW with just a new sticker.

And from my reading. That would be done by the body builder of the truck. Not ford. As the body builder would be the final builder of the truck.

Not in that case, Ford actually does the downrate. Its not in the online order guide but your dealer's spec book offers it. Word.

Ok.

So.. you might have missed my question.

Your going to stick a 17 foot box behind a 92 inch cab on a truck with a 135" wheel base?
