We in Michigan have a golden opportunity to put an end to "ballot box science" and require that ALL wildlife regulations be based on sound science rather than emotions. It is VERY important that these two bills be passed. Far too often in the past wildlife populations have been put in jeopardy due to bad regulations being pushed through or good regulations shot down because of the "Bambi Syndrome".
Our wildlife resources are extremely important. They are a gift that should not be squandered on "feelings" or "common sense". All decisions SHOULD be made based on sound science. Michigan is blessed with a magnificent diversity of wildlife. Michigan is also lucky to have a corps of very dedicated wildlife biologists that know what they are doing and share a love of all things wild.
Wildlife management is very difficult. Let's not leave it up to the "junk dealers". Contact your state senator and state representative and let them know that you support HB 4552 & 4553 and SB 288 & 289. If we can get these bills passed we will be taking a huge step to insure that our great grandchildren will know the joy of Michigan's wildlife.

The single biggest piece of pro-sportsman/scientific wildlife management legislation in decades needs your support right now!
Scientific Wildlife Management legislation, Senate Bills 288 & 289 and House Bills 4552 & 4553 will ensure that wildlife management decisions in Michigan are made using sound science, not ballot-box biology. If we don’t pass this legislation now, out-of-state groups will come back to our state again and again to attack our hunting rights one by one! They are at work right now and need to be countered!

The following bullet points describe what the Scientific Wildlife Management package would do, and may be helpful in talking to your legislator:
- Authorize the Natural Resources Commission to designate game species and issue fisheries orders under its Proposal G mandate to use sound science.
- Provide conservation funding to conduct the research and data necessary for the DNR to make sound scientific recommendations to the Natural Resources Commission, and for outdoor education and outreach, such as youth outdoor education.
- This appropriation will also help ensure that Michigan receives its full share of Pittman-Robertson funding due to federal match requirements and high firearm and ammunition sales this year.
- Protect the rights to hunt and fish in Michigan’s Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act.
Thank you for taking action in support of scientific wildlife management!
