Just wanted you all to know to make sure you change the water filters on your trucks. Today my truck got a nasty leak and all behold a water filter I had no clue was under there tucked away by the frame rail . BTW to change there is a small shutoff just above the filter you turn off so you will not loose allot of coolant.

Ok just wanted to inform you all of this issue to watch closely on your big trucks.

Its not a water filter, it is a water supplement unit.

Did you ever read the owner's manual?

Oh and the ISC also has one.

I think I'm paying $35 from the cummins dealer. Every once and a while they have a filter sale, oil filters for $20 and fuel for $25.

Actually Greg, it IS both. It is comonly refered to as a filter by the manufatures and tech's.

Here is a bit of basic info on the coolant system for those that may not be aware.

Most medium to heavy duty diesels use one of these filters in the system to maintain the integrity of the coolant. The heat cycles that occur in diesels break down the elements present in the coolant meant to "fight" scaling, rust and general corrosion within the system all the while filtering out contaminates. A coolant system is a closed loop system and the filter is installed in a side loop off of the main system. This means that the filter is not in the main flow of the system, only a small percentage flows through the filter at a given time both releasing suplimental elements that had been depleated and filtering as it flows through. Over time it will treat the entire system. It is a good idea to have your coolant tested twice a year at minimum. It is a simple and inexpensive test that can save you many headaches and $$$ down the road. A healthy coolant system is a happy coolant system.

I know about them and thanks for the explanation, it is better than mine by far. Yep it acts as a bypass filter acts, little at a time.

You do know they make coolant filters for ISX too, which for those who don't know mount on the frame and attached to the bottom outlet of the radiator. I have seen people buy them by mistake when they meant the supplement cartridge and the reason why I said what it is.
