The American Trucking Associations is seeking help from truck stops to make information packets about proposed hours-of-service changes available to truck drivers.

ATA’s information packets include a letter truck drivers can sign and fax to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration protesting changes to driver work and rest rules. Drivers must submit comments to FMCSA by Feb. 28.

ATA claims adoption of the proposed rule will reduce the trucking industry's productivity and jeopardize safety advances made in recent years. The National Private Truck Council said Feb. 7 at an industry luncheon hosted by ATA the proposed rule could translate into a 5 percent to 7 percent cut in driver pay and a 15 percent decline in fleet productivity.

FMCSA's recent proposal to change driver work and rest rules for truck drivers would reduce the maximum daily driving time by one hour to 10 hours per shift and reduce the maximum daily working time window by one additional hour to 13 hours by requiring drivers to take a 30 minute break every seven hours. It also would extend the 34-hour restart period to include two overnight, six-hour rest periods between midnight and 6 a.m. and limit the restart to once every seven calendar days.

Yha ,if you ask me, the FMCSA was simply replying to the court deadline, to come up with a new proposal before the end of the year .
and as we can see, the results are the FMCSA simply saying : we can't handle it .
there's very little donuts in my mind, that the HOS PRM will ever make it to be a law - the way it is reading right now.

however, we as an industry, MUST make our voice herd !
i also think that expediters have a unique pov, especially Expediters teams, as they industry simply can not take the 34 at home or under load,
and you all needs to step up.

i can't tell you how many times in the last month, truckers simply ignored my letter, especially teams an old dogs.
the good news, is well, i just got 3 teamsters drivers to sign my letter and i just faxed it over D'other day.
which makes it 21 drivers !

after reading the ATA letter, it is clear that the letter was written from a corporate POV.
