As some of you know, recently I bought that NV. Well, I reached 11k miles so far in less than three wks, but I am somehow concerned about the transmission. I am rolling on the road, I release the gas pedal and when I hit it again I hear kinda bang and a slight shake. I'm asking this because I never had problems with the transmission before. With my Savana I reached 780k without any problems on engine or trans. Same thing with the E-350, but now... any ideas or advices?

Wild guesses are the best you'll likely get....sounds like a torque converter issue to me...but who knows?

Why not just take it straight to the dealer, let them figure it out? Its under warranty correct?

Yes, it is and I intended to pay a visit to the dealer, but before doing so, I wanted to hear some opinions...

Thanks for the reply!

Depending on the sounds it may just be a U-joint.

Sounds like it could be anything in the drive train. It'll be interesting to see how many people in the service department are blown away by how many miles you've put on it so quickly. When I bought my Ford, I was in for a warranty repair and the service adviser was telling me about the maintenance program I should be on. I told him I probably wouldn't be in every 2 weeks to have them inspect my brakes and that I'd pass on the thousands of dollars of extended warranty that would probably last less than a year. Just doin' his job I guess...

Does this happen after a long coast? Like when going down a long hill and then reapplying the gas?

Now it happens always when I hit the gas pedal. In the beginning it was only when I was hitting fast the gas pedal, not when it was a smooth touch, but now it does anytime I hit it.

Hi Opel,

I have an NV 2500 with 55K+ and no problems yet. But from other vehicles I have had problems with, I too think it could be a U-Joint, but then again, anything in the newer drive trains could be making that noise. Get to the dealer under your own power while you can, other wise it be on the back of a tow truck....

Good luck,

I'm going with the U-joint crowd. Any clunking noise when shifting between park neutral and drive with your foot on the brake pedal?

Whatever, take it to a dealer.

Nope, it's only when I hit the gas...

Usually a bad U-joint will make a clunking sound when torque is applied to the driveline so maybe it is the transmission.

My Chevy made a grinding, crunchy sound whenever I would hit the throttle hard. My mechanic drove and of course he heard nothing. He had me drive while he listened. He heard the sound and traced it to my right knee. His diagnosis was confirmed by my doctor. No cartilage in the right knee.
