Lots of sheriffs are starting to take this position. Sheriffs have more latitude to speak candidly than other law enforcement officers, mostly because they are elected officials with no direct supervisor giving them talking points to follow.
Good local government is a blessing. Cities, counties and states are going to find a way to thwart the federal government's encroachment into most aspect of our dailly lives. Push-back is important. It's all we have and the least we can do.

It is a two way street..feds don't want to enforce immigration laws, local cops won't enforce federal gun laws....
Sheriffs and sheriff's deputies are also not subject to the intensive mental evaluations other law enforcement officers are required to complete. Just an observation.

Not that all po-po don't care; but Pontiac is a much safer city when the police were traded in for the Oakland County Sheriff, according to a couple of citizens.
I see a fair number here, whereas I was told you might see a city cop come by once every 3-4 days, or so.
Their job is open to critique, probably moreso than the union cops.
