Anyone need a Van driver.

We hired a guy from Detroit, Mi to drive one of our trucks, but he can't drive stick. We was going to put him in our automatic, but it has a sur shift with a clutch. He has a class B CDL and is a very nice young man. He just don't feel good about driving a auto matic with a clutch. If anyone needs a van driver this guy is a Panther driver that has already went threw class. Send me a PM and i will give you his number. If I had a van I know he would do good in it because the guy wants to work.

Sorry to state the obvious, why not train him to drive a stick?
would he be willing to learn?

Exactly what I thought. If he wants to work, he would be willing to be trained to drive a stick.

We offered to train him. We had paid out a bus ticket, 3 days in a hotel and the cost of sending him threw class at Panther. The guy said he couldn't do it. We lost about $600.00 on this driver but I would rather lose $600.00 than him wreck a truck or kill someone. We bought the guy a bus ticket back home as he didn't have any money to get home. Sometimes you win with a driver and sometimes you lose. The guy was being honest and that is all you can ask of someone.

I suppose there is some truth in that, but the ability to do the job also comes to mind.

Yer a good man to help him out, but if he is unwilling to go the step further to know how to depress the clutch when he stops, and release it when he is ready to go, (the auto shifter), then I'm not sure he would go the extra mile for any part of the job.

I been running a class a driver in my van and really need to get him back in a big truck so if he really wants to work then I have a van available but I run for more than one so it wouldnt be for just panther.

have him send me a pm if he really wants to work

Oh, I missed that. Thought it was a manual, not autoshift. Like you said, he just has to use the clutch when he starts and when he stops, nothing to it. Some people just don't wanna.

Has he at least try it once? You know, like, find out how hard it is, and then say he cant do it? I think I know the answer.

Sorry to state the obvious....

Second "obvious" here.......

The guy has a CDL...who missed the part where one should ask whether he could drive a stick or not, or why did he not bring it up during the hiring/interviewing part of the process??

Not saying Dave did anything wrong...Hell, the guy said he had a "CDL", so one would believe that he knows how to drive a "Truck". Right?? But, the Guy himself should have brought up the issue right from the get-go. Know what I mean.

This cost Dave here over $600. To heck with the Guy..send 'em on his way home. Sure they're looking for Taxi Drivers in his area. Never been in a Taxi that didn't have an Auto Tranny. :D

Well many of the light duty straight trucks are auto such as the m2 106 and hino. Maybe he assumed it would be an auto. I am a former T/T driver so i will not drive an auto or a 6 spd. I like to have the power of a semi and weight of a straight.

The only reason why I can't drive stick is I took my CDL road test on an automatic vehicle. That gave me the restriction of No Manual CMV, but I can still drive a stick as I had some experience when I was training for OTR before. I'm willing to learn.
