Anyone leasing their van?

I was just curious if anyone leases their van from say Ryder or Penske? Is it working out for you and what are the costs involved? Small van, not straight truck.

I would think so too. I am new around here and just trying to gather information. Maybe you can make it work with tax write offs etc, but the high miles at the end of the lease would probably kill you.

Thanks guys. $700-800 per month..:eek:

Well, considering a truck payment on a brand new $30-$40,000 truck, which is about the price range of those trucks at the dealership, would be about the same over 60 months, $700-$800 a month aint that bad.

One of the 3PL companies I contracted with over the years had a lease program with Penske where they were leasing 3 15ft box trucks for local pickups and deliveries. I believe they were paying like $1500 a month per truck. They lost that lease when they had a driver, the same driver, roll 2 of those trucks within a 2 week time period. Called around for pricing from Budget and Ryder, couldn't afford their rates. So, one of the owners just went and bought 2 24ft Box Trucks instead. Cut his "company truck" expenses basically in half.

Why the question about leasing? Especially for a CV or small box truck? If you're looking into expediting as a long term venture, I'd finance before leasing, period.

I am not familiar with the expeditie business, in the past I have leased construction equipment and trailers and was wondering if its prevelent with CVs. I appreciate your info. You are correct if you are looking at purchasing a $30-40K vehicle, a payment of $700-800 per month is not that far off.

On another note, it doesn't take an expensive truck to get started in expediting. If unsure of whether this is right for you, buy a cheap truck and see how it all works before investing the big bucks. There are cheap dependable trucks out there that will fill your needs till you get your feet wet. Just saying, you have several different options.

A big problem with leasing is you're really stuck if circumstances change and you need to get out of it.

If you stop and think about it that price for a new vehicle is not bad at all. Free oil changes, no maintenance costs, just fuel and insurance. If a person were going to buy new they could come out ahead with that type of deal.

I know what you mean, (but I jest), do any of us "come out ahead" on any of these trucks? It seems "not" at times!

Hey Blue Jay.

What type of Vehicle is that with 370k miles on it. Reason why I ask is my Chevy Express 2006 has 270k and I still owe $7500 do you think it will go the Distance

Dave, I have the van with 370.000 and by 1800 tomorrow it will have 371,500...it is a 2005 GMC Savanna 3500 extended with a 4.8...

I will be replacing it in June or July and by then i figure it will have over 410,000....:D

I think most modern engines if well maintained and doing highway miles will have a chance of reaching 500K without too many repairs. I always worry about the trannys.

After reading my last post and being new around here I would like to clarify;

tranny = transmission, NOT a 6'2" 'woman' with an adams apple.
