From HC Constable patrol Prec. #5 Be careful at gas stations & parking lots/criminals giving free key rings with device chip There is a syndicate of criminals presenting themselves as sales promoters who are giving free key rings at gas stations and parking lots. The key ring has a tracking device chip which allows the criminals to track and follow you. Please, please don't accept them. They select their seemingly well-to-do potential victims and if you accept, you might become a victim of their tricks. The key holders are very beautiful and hard to resist accepting; but remember, you may end up paying more than the cost of a key holder, including the risk to your life.

Yeah, I was just about to point that out. I gave it benefit of the doubt because of the source.

Call me stoopid, [like y'all need an invitation, lol] but what exactly would a 'tracking device' accomplish that a human couldn't without it? You know, like a stalker?
I fail to see where there's any reason to worry about it, even if it were true - a mope could just follow you home anyhow, anytime, right?

They could certainly try but they might get cut off in traffic, stuck at a red light, have a flat or any number of other things that would thwart them. They might succeed but be spotted and thereby fail. With the device the bad guys could find their way with no risk of failure. They could also use it later to determine you aren't home so they know when to go break in.

That last sentence cracked me up: what if 'you' weren't home, but 'you' weren't the one they ought to be worried about running into?

That would definitely be the case. As good as I am I'm not the one to fear most in my house.
