Another National call to order

Please call your U.S. Senators ASAP!

As you may recall, earlier this year Senator John Thune (SD) introduced S.845, the "Respecting States Rights and Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2009". If enacted, S.845 would allow individuals who have a concealed carry permit the ability to carry a firearm in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. As things stand now, some states refuse to honor concealed weapons permits from other states. This bill will go a long ways towards ensuring the safety of you and your fellow truckers when you are on the road.

Senator Thune plans to modify the text of S.845 and offer it as an amendment to the Defense Authorization bill that is currently being debated on the Senate floor. He needs your help to get enough votes to pass his amendment and get it included in the Defense bill.

Senator Thune may offer his amendment as soon as today. Please call your Senators IMMEDIATELY and urge them to support this amendment. Your message to them and their staff can be as simple as, "I am from (hometown, home state) and I ask that the Senator votes in support of Senator Thune's conceal carry amendment to the Defense bill."

I find it AMAZING that we even HAVE to ask permission to exercise a RIGHT that is ALREADY ours under the U.S. Constitution. It just goes to show just how little respect that so many have for our freedoms. That lack of respect is a sad commintary on our lack of belief in our way of life. All those who are willing to give up their Constitutional RIGHTS or take away RIGHTS from others should be ashamed! You really should go down to a Veterans Cemetary and apologize to those in there.

I received this same alert from OOIDA and made the call to my 2 senators. Unfortunately, both are Dems, and lean to the liberal left. We disagree on almost all issues and despite my many many calls, letters and e-mails, they always vote against my wishes. So much for being my representatives.

I agree with layoutshooter that it is a shame that we have to again fight for our rights already granted to us by the US Constitution.

a yes vote is a vote to support the bill and stregthen your ability to carry from one state to the next.

while i don't agree with the need to have a permit or licence which ever your state calls it, i called my 2 elected idiots (brown and voinich) and told them both to support it...if you feel the need to get the ccw it should be recognized in all states that allow ccw and requirer the "permit or licence"...

Clarification!!
We just received the following information from Senator Thune's office:
"In order to protect state's rights, our bill does not allow conceal carry in states that do not already allow the practice. Individuals must follow the laws of the host state, including laws concerning specific types of locations in which firearms may or may not be carried. Additionally, if an individual is prohibited by federal law from carrying a firearm, they will continue to be prohibited under our bill."
Alaska and Vermont have unique conceal carry laws in which they do not require a permit to carry. Illinois and Wisconsin are on the other end of the spectrum in that they don't offer permits.

ooops.

NO State has the legal authority to infringe on a citizens RIGHT to Keep and BARE arms!! Period. We are either free or not. There is NO middle ground. I love New Hampshires State Motto: LIVE FREE OR DIE!!! I think that I will try to find one of those "Don't Tread on ME" bumper stickers too.
