What is it with these Demoncrats? They just don't like the idea that the People often don't want what they want and seem to have NO problem overriding the will of the People.

THIS time it's the governor of VA. The People said NO to expanding Medicaid, SO, he is looking for illegal ways to bypass the will of the People and do it ANYWAY! Just how long are the American people going to take this garbage from these despot wannabe politicians?

SO many of them seem to have forgotten just who is in charge here. The PEOPLE are. Someone needs to slap these bums baldheaded or something. This "stuff" has to stop.

Just in case you forgot how this works. The PEOPLE elect representatives to do what THEY want them to do. IF the PEOPLE don't like what their elected reps do, THEY can vote them out. It is NOT the place of the executive to bypass the will of the PEOPLE.

[h=1]Va. governor vows to expand Medicaid on his own[/h]"RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe vowed Friday to bypass the General Assembly and expand Medicaid eligibility for about 400,000 low-income residents on his own, a move Republican lawmakers immediately promised to fight."

That's one of the two main philosophies of political representation. One is the people elect a representative to do exactly what he's been told, in effect electing someone to represent them in a strict majority rule (where the tyranny of the majority can usurp the wants, wishes and rights of the minority). This elected official becomes a direct proxy for the majority. The other philosophy is the people elects someone to make the decisions based on his or her own convictions, where the representative will act on what is good for the people, whether they like it or not, dammnit. Legislators are generally elected to represent the will of the people, but governors are generally elected to govern, which may or may nor coincide with the will of the people.

In either case, the people can vote their elected representatives out of office.

Legislators, governors and other representatives are not do-gooder angels, nor are they lacking in personal interest. Like most people, elected officials will do what they can get away with doing to enhance their incomes and make their lives better off. The only difference between the average representative and the average businessman is the types of acts that are rewarded in politics versus business (the difference in the frameworks in which choices are made).

The decisions made by representatives in the legislature or leaders in office may have little relationship to the campaign promises made when trying to get elected. To get elected the representative must promise everyone everything. To extract the maximum rents from the office he was elected to the representative will want to prove his influence on those few issues of importance to those who can be expected to increase his "campaign" coffers and/or who may provide him with employment should he loose a future election. Hence, the typical representative will trade off votes on issues that are of little "importance" (in the above sense) for additional support for the "correct position" on those issues that are of greater "importance" (in the above sense). A governor who can expand Medicaid against the opposition will find that he has many friends in the health care, insurance and lobbying industries, and he'll find his bank account runneth over.

And of course if you are going to be giving "free" benefits, that likely will bring you a few votes. ;)

That is one of the two REAL reasons for this move to bypass the People, complete power over the People being part and parcel of the problem.

Let's use where I live for example. The People in my district, on the state level, vote, for lack of a better term, "conservative". Just up the road, in Wayne county, they do the opposite. My district is very "active", known for direct contact with our rep/senator and making our wishes clear to them on a regular basis, not just at election time.

Because of that, we have be "blessed" of late, with reps who, for the most part, vote as the majority in the district wish them to vote. Lately, those reps, and senators, have been Republican. I promise you, at least in our district, that the People would vote for anyone, from any party, if they continued to vote as we require them too.

What then happens is the "press" says that the "Republicans" are doing this. No, those elected are doing as their constituents wish them to do, it is not the same thing.

I, personally, keep in touch with my federal rep, on a regular basis, even maintaining a limited personal relationship with him and some of his staff. We hunt together. I keep my senators in the loop, even though that is a total waste of time, since Wayne county has almost total control over that office and the rest of the state has little say.

I'm more interested in getting the roads in your county plowed by something other than the sun.

You will be happy to know that Monroe County has replaced several trucks and now has a full compliment of what they are required to have. The retired employees have been replaced as well. That ends those excuses.
