Another All-types horror story

In regards to my original post on All-Types...I should have been more specific about my 1 run. After my orientation in Ft.Wayne,In...I was told to drive to Dayton,Oh(on my gas/money)The run I got was to be picked up in Indianapolis,In.,so I had to drive there(on my gas/money)I was paid .80 per mile from Indianapolis to Oshkosh,Wisc. From there I would have had to drive back to the shipping lanes in Indiana/Ohio(on my gas/money)in order to have any chance to secure another trip. This was just another piece of the puzzle that life with All-Types was not going to be how they portrayed it.

That is really a horror story if you are used to some better practices.
My company sucks on backloads, I am sure I said that enough times already, and so are a lot of other companies right now. At least one driver a day tells me a simular story. Too much deadhead, no fuel surcharge, to much deadhead to pick up and so forth. But to go back and forth for one load, thats the kicker. And as far as insurance goes, when I "only" pay around $240/mth. why would you have to pay more for just 2 days??? Certainly a ripp-off. I wish you the best of luck with that lawyer.

Why would any one in this business want to go with a company that has shipping lales covering only two states?

The top exp co have shipping lanes in excess of 30 states. This is what keeps you moving with minimal DH.

It seems to me,as an owner/operator,it becomes your choice whether or not you move your truck on your dime.. It is only a suggestion from your carrier..If they told you to move then obviously this is a dispatch and requires a fee... These horror stories sometimes are manufactured by the driver and blamed on the carriers..

While it's true there's 2 sides to every story, when ya hear the same story about someone over & over, ya tend to believe it. I believe him fully on this one.

Yes, you can decide to stay/deadhead. When you're new to a company though, ya tend to do what dispatch advises until ya figure out what you feel works best. I fully admit I have no firsthand experience w/ All Types. I've read enough & talked to a few people though, that makes me think that they aren't the best organization out there. Maybe some have done well w/ em, I dunno. I haven't come across any though.

I hope it's ok to plug my own company. David, if you're still looking for a company, I'd go w/ Thompson. If you live in Michigan or Ohio you'll get a fair amount of work. You'll go to Canada a lot, & coming back to the US can be frustrating at times, but that's not an issue w/ Thompson as a company. Besides, nothing is perfect.

You'll get paid when you're told you will. You'll even get paid early if payday falls on a weekend. =) Dispatch is first rate. I don't always agree w/ what they want me to do, but I respect where they're coming from. As I said before, you'll get a fair amount of work & generally you'll be treated well.

The only thing I'd say to do w/ Thompson is make sure ya talk to their Canadian recruiter rather than the American one if Bob is still the US recruiter, even if you're an American. As for the company itself though, it's first rate.

Good luck to ya,
Danny
