Suspicion of North Korea runs deep in South Korea, so it wasn’t a surprise that within hours of the announcement of Kim Jong-il’s death Monday, some South Korean newspapers were asking if the Dear Leader had been murdered

Knowing North Korea's past, it is a very fair question. Since the two Korea's are still at war, suspicion is kinda normal. I would be worried if we have a hostile army of 1.5 million on my doorstep with nothing to do. The country is starving, very poor, a dangerous combination.

Maybe we need to pull our troops out and let reunification happen.

I doubt that pulling out our troops would allow that to happen. The South cannot afford the cost of reunification. I think short term, with the condition of the North, that it is far more likely to see hostilities flair up again than a reunification move.

What gives you the idea that they can't afford it?

Korea is a rich country, if you haven't noticed they are not having the same problems say Kenya is having.

Let's see, North Korea is almost devoid of electricity. They have almost no food. Failing infrastructure. The difference in wage structure is beyond belief. It would take a decade or two to totally reunite those two countries. How much? Who knows? It would likely strain South Korea and slow growth for a long time. South Korea is fairly well off, combined, the country will be hurting for a long time.

Well here is the thing, I don't care.

See Layout, it is their problem. They have used our tax money to build their country up and they, like Germany, can afford the unification of their own country no matter what. It will happen, one of two ways and I don't see a reason what we are continue to dump money into the country without a benefit to us or our defense.

I know who's problem it is. All I was saying is that it is not our troops stopping it. I doubt if anyone in this forum is qualified to determine what benefit we are or are not getting to our defense from our troops there.
